Who needs universal healthcare when you have Blue Cross Blue Shield?
I got mine...everyone else can just go to hell.
After all, I only pay $500 a month for the privilege of being insured. Not only that, I have had this sinus infection that keeps getting worse--and it only cost me $20 copay to see the Doctor, $25 copay for my antibiotic and $40 for my cough syrup.
Oh but that isn't the best part!
For the same undertreated infection...just two weeks ago I paid $20 for the Doctor and $40 for the antibiotic.

So far this month, I have paid OUT $645 for the privilege of being one of the elite and having insurance.
Like I said...who needs universal healthcare when we can get the best healthcare money can buy for 25% of our monthly salary.:eyes:

3. Lucky you - You're going to meet your deductible in about 5 minutes
:sarcasm:

We have Anthem PPO and our deductibles are 3K each. And the drugs are included in that deductible. It's a killer.

4. I have BCBS too
and they are the absolute worst company in Customer Service I have ever dealt with, on hold 45mins, getting told I have to call a different number (they can't even transfer you) getting hung up on, this list goes on and on.

5. Not absolute worst.........
You have a long list of Docs to choose from. When only 2 or 3 in your town are listed as providers, out of 30 or more, let me know. My listed physicians that take 'new' patients are all 30 miles away.

11. The only insurance my last job offered was BCBS Rhode Island.
Of course the company was located in Mass but the cheap bastards I worked for figured it would be cheaper and discourage people from getting insurance if their only options were out out state.

My current job offers a few plans including BCBS MA but several people have warned me they may have a great selection of providers but their actual coverage, especially when it comes to medicine, sucks so I went with another choice.

7. The only health care system that really works ...
... is the one that doesn't include insurance companies. As long as profit is part of the picture, citizens will get shafted every time.

9. Hey--not only THAT...
...if you want Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), which is the ONLY FDA-APPROVED TREATMENT FOR LONG-TERM, TREATMENT-RESISTANT DEPRESSION (TRD), you get the privilege of going through their appeals process for AN ENTIRE YEAR! You even get to file a case with the state Department of Managed Health Care (if your state has one)!

Isn't it wonderful, being part of such a hip, privileged crowd? :puke:

No copays, cheap prescriptions. It's not the provider, it's the policy.

ETA: But point taken.

12. Your employer determines which type of policy they buy from BCBS.
It's your employer who has decided that you should pay such large co-pays and high deductibles..

13. Unless you're in a union.
Then the union -- its members -- decides that we should pay no co-pays and low deductibles.

17. I know people like that, it's the employer

22. It's not the employer.
It's the policy holder, which is the union. And it's not unfair, they decide to pay for it.

15. I'm constamtly fighting BC/BS for trying not to pay what they're supposed to pay
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 01:25 AM by notmyprez
My previous health plan is still on record, so they say they are just the secondary insurer, and the other plan is my primary and should pay it. Like anyone's going to have 2 insurance plans (when we can't afford 1)! I finally got it straightened out--sort of. Unfortunately, the person at the company I used to work at put the wrong date on the insurance document, so they will probably pull the same shit on another bill. I've had BC/BS off and on for years, and the one consistent thing is that they always try to get out of paying that which the plan says they are supposed to pay for. I wouldn't be surprised if they get away with it a lot because many people don't bother fighting them. I always fight it, though there are better things I could be doing with my time. Just the other day, when I was talking to one of my doctor's secretary, she was cheering me on for fighting the insurers. BTW, I'm paying over $400 a month for cobra to get my insurance, so it's all out of my own pocket; you bet I'm fighting this shit!

Edited to add: And sadly, I know I'm still better off than lots of folks, although the way I'm having trouble finding a job, my worries aren't over.

16. 'cause I don't, and can't get coverage
unless I could get group coverage, no private insurer will probably take me now. So...to stay on the Medicaid analog offered by the state, all income above $934 is considered "share of cost"= no coverage until you spend that much, each month.

Did have Blue Cross, at the time it was ~$250/month and covered virtually nothing. Do not have it anymore.

20. I actually remember when Blue Cross/Blue Shield was a nonprofit
organization. It was affordable and actually covered 100% of everything. Not any more.
