Specter Wants Explanation from NFL & Cheatriots

I saw this in sports, but couldn't give it a rec, so I hope that can happen here. Interesting stuff.

1. LOL
“That requires an explanation,” Specter said. “The N.F.L. has a very preferred status in our country with their antitrust exemption. The American people are entitled to be sure about the integrity of the game. It’s analogous to the C.I.A. destruction of tapes. Or any time you have records destroyed.”

So basically nothing will happen.

2. Hey Spectre! How about putting that energy towards a more
important issue of destruction of evidence.

Asshole.

3. Spying in the NFL.. democracy is dead!
:sarcasm:

Why in the fuck is Capital Hill more interested in what goes on in professional sports than in stuff that actually effects this nation?

4. Hey Specter: I'd Like to Know about the CIA Destroying Tapes
And I'd like to know why Specter doesn't make a big deal out of Bush not recalling the destruction of CIA tapes.

5. A Waste of OUR Money and a Publicity Stunt, pure and simple...
Spector is looking for headlines putting this out there 2 days before the Super Bowl. He is also a rabid Philadelphia Eagles fan and "spygate" might have occured during Eagles game against the Patriots in the Super Bowl a while back. Can't we find any more useful ways to spend our hard earned taxpayer dollars? I wonder how many Doctor appointments for the poor could be paid for with what this "investigation" is going to cost? Simply ridiculous!

11. I agree that it is a stupid move, but...
It is much easier to go after Roger Gooddall than it is to go after Bush.

6. As a Jets fan...
the team the Pats were caught cheating AGAINST I'm very concerned about the integrity of the game-made a few calls to Commissioner Goodell in September voicing my displeasure-and his punishment was so weak. The Pats lost their 1st round draft pick-BFD, they still pick 7th in the draft in April from a trade with the 49ers-in other words they still got to keep the win and get a slap on the wrist-it pissed a whole lot of Jets fans off I can tell you that-go Giants

Hmmm. Can't decide which is more important.

16. Unless you're a Seahawks fan!
We will bet that Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson remembers this one. New York Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde dived toward the goal line in a game against the Erickson-coached Seattle Seahawks at the Meadowlands in 1998. His helmet did not even get there, much less the football.

In fact, there was much stronger evidence that Jimmy Hoffa was somewhere in that end zone, but it was ruled a touchdown.

The Jets went on to win their division. The Seahawks just missed the playoffs, and Erickson was told his services would no longer be necessary.

Hoffa still is missing.

But hey, instant replay came back because of this play. I'm NOT bitter! :hi:

12. according to the article...
The Patriots’ videotaping practices came into question during the opening game of their undefeated regular season. Jets security personnel caught a Patriots employee filming the Jets’ defensive signals from the sideline at Giants Stadium on Sept. 9.

Mr. Goodell, whose father, Charles, was a congressman and later a senator from New York, went on national television and promised a full investigation. He ordered the Patriots to send in any videotape filmed in violation of N.F.L. rules, from any game in any season, to the league office.

After reviewing the tapes, the N.F.L. announced it had destroyed them, saying it did so to prevent them from being used to gain a competitive advantage.

Mr. Goodell levied the most severe penalty in history on the Patriots — the loss of a first-round draft pick, a $500,000 fine for Coach Bill Belichick and a $250,000 fine for the team. The league said the penalty was for the Patriots’ “totality of conduct” and not simply for the Jets game.

I'm not getting something here. Does the NFL have to discuss fines and disciplinary measures with the US Congress? Is the NFL being accused of a crime? What about review tapes of questionable calls? Are those destroyed?

13. Specter always interesting
It's not that Specter can't tell right from wrong it's just that he does nothing about it when wrong is done. In this case the Pats at least lost a draft pick, what happen to the CIA?
