Senator Biden on President's Signing Statement on Permanent Bases in Iraq
snip

“It is outrageous for the President to suggest that Congress cannot bar the use of funds – something clearly within the power of Congress under our Constitution – for the construction of permanent bases in Iraq.

The suggestion that he may disregard a law overwhelmingly approved by Congress, coupled with the President’s intent to sign a long-term agreement obligating the United States to defend the Iraqi government from internal and external threats, only reaffirms to Americans that there is no end in sight to the war in Iraq.

And though Defense Secretary Robert Gates said recently that “we have no interest in permanent bases” in Iraq, the President’s signing statement will serve to confirm the deepest fears in Iraq and the region, however incorrect they may be, that the United States invasion actually is about permanent military occupation and American control of Iraqi oil.

The President’s statement is a significant setback in the war of ideas. It hands our enemies a victory by making it that much easier for them to misportray our intentions.”

1. When Bush is gone can we change back to where we want to be?
Will the next President give back the power to the Congress?

9. How true!
Even I know you don't build swimming pools in the desert for a temporary stay. Have you seen the photos of those bases we built? Maybe we could send our homeless over there when we bring our soldiers home. I guess the Iraqis might have something to do about that, though.

10. From the very start, when they were saying 6 weeks tops, there
was a shortage of plywood & building supplies in the US.

11 more months people, 11 more months.

Both Hillary and Barack have said NO to permanent bases.

5. Holy sh**t! That's outrageous, even for this administration.
Is there nothing that congress can do to stop this wild man who appears to be charging ahead even though everyone, including his own party, thinks he crazy?

6. I'll tell you what's outrageous, Mr. Senator
The fact that you and 99 of your colleauges bend over and take it every time MonkeyAss does this shit.

Cry me a river, Biden. When you wake up one morning and find your branch of government closed for business, you'll have no one but yourself to blame.

Have any of these fucking Senators ever taken Intro to American Government? The President's statement is irrelevant horseshit that you Congresstards give credibility to.

WHY?

12. impeachment has to start in the House of Rep., not the Senate
"The House of Representatives shall choose their speaker and other officers; and shall have the sole power of impeachment."

"The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments."

Judiciary Committee anymore. He's the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

And who are you calling stupid?

he will defy congress, the law, and the American people. Sometimes I wonder if he does because he can. I hope the world can survive the next 353 days.

21. The intentions of the Bush Junta are not the intentions of USG, Mr. Biden.
Senator, view their actions as those of a Junta, not as a branch of a government, and it all makes sense. They are overthrowing the established order!

I.e., it is an impeachable offense.
