McCain Is To Conservatives As Lieberman Is To Liberals?
Judging by the intense reaction from the conservative base to a McCain nomination, I think so.

1. That's a good analogy. That's how they fell in love.

2. I can't imagine a scenario in which our side would vote for Lieberman out of fear
can you?

3. In terms of no love being lost, yes.
But in terms of policy & support of party agenda? Couldn't be more different.

Most freepers are too stupid to realize that McCain is a pretty reliable Republican. Supports Bush's War of Terror, supports ridiculous tax giveaways to the rich, and on and on. Lieberman ALSO supports the war, supports tax breaks for the rich, etc. Dems have much more valid reasons to despise Holy Joe than Repukes do to hate McCain.

4. I imagine you are right about that........
I fail to see it myself mind you but from what I'm hearing from republicans, their sentiment reminds me of how I feel about Joementum. Actually, Joe is much worse in my eyes.

5. If McCain were *opposed* to the war , you'd have the makings...

... of a good analogy. But he's NOT. Never has been.

He shares the world view of the republican right. He just takes a few trips off the reservation from time to time... enraging purists among them.

Lieberman does not share the basic world view of the modern national DEM Party. He shares the republican worldview in foreign policy and maintains some affinity for DEM positons re. domestic policy.

6. Republican to me today: "McCain is not a Republican."
"He should quit the party and run as an independent."

I could have asked why, but I wouldn't get an informed answer. I wouldn't even get the honest answer, which would have been: "Because Rush Limbaugh said so."
