Thoughts on Stephane Dion?
Is he a decent leader? Can he beat Harper next election? I personally don't think so. There's something about him. He comes off as an accountant that would speak to you in a condescending manner. And he does that in his role as opposition leader. I don't know, he just seems weak to me. The other thing is he comes across as one of those typical eastern Canadian aristocrats that westerners can't stand. And I find him to lack sack in the house.
You?

1. anything's better then harper
harper's an agent, of the same psychopathy that gave us junyer bush. hatred for the people disguised as patriotism, small gov and so on....Stephane Dion is a decent guy, but he's in a knife fight with a cap gun it seems, going pop pop pop. So much of the public policies of the Canadian gov are worked out in secret, behind the curtain- Dion obviously knows alot more then we do, which might explain his careful stepping through the minefields (the news today says 'white supremist blogs are raising petitions in support of Keith Martin' liberal MP. who's trying to head off gov. plan to outlaw stuff on the internet, like advocating against the afghanistan war, or condemning the north amer. union idea, or using torture to extract nonsense from suspect children etc)) Thus the newsmedia wants to paint all ooponents of fascism as 'white supremists' in this one case- how should DIon deal with that? Support the white supremist groups?
it's ridiculous that the choices are so few, and so shoddy. but the pigrule system dictates that it is, so the Americans decide between _ and _ while Canada has only a _ and _ choice too! iow we have no choice- the pig choosed for us.
Dion can whip harper, cuz the Canadian people are afraid of bush, and harper's so bushie he actually stinks...if harper had a hope of getting a majority, he'd already have it, so he's buying time

2. Well, you've got the Keith Martin thing a bit wrong
He's talking about Section 13, which was actually brought in by the liberals to address hate speech. This has nothing to do with anything on the internet and I have never heard of the cons trying that anyway. However, their recent gag on Environment Canada is a serious offense and that's the kind of issue Dion should be all over. Cons love to hide stuff from the people, the idea of that scares people... cons and libs alike. If I were Dion, I'd be all over that constantly.

4. Don't Know
He seems to have thrown his ideology away to the backroom people after the loss in Outremont.

His most recent actions in Saskatchewan seem to be cutting his supporters off at the knees. "You dance with the one who brung you" comes to mind.

It looks to me that the Martin and Chretein groups are fighting it out and Dion has little power to deal with it.

So, as to the future, I will say again what I have said before. If the NDP wants to become a real power, the enemy is the Cons, not the Liberals. When Liberal supporters are fed up with the Liberals they will turn to another party. And it won't be a party that has attacked them.
