What if all radio and TV advertising were illegal?
There would still be many venues available for advertising, such as periodicals and stores. For example, in-store advertising can include posters and parts of some product labels.
There are do-not-call registers to prevent people from trying to sell over the telephone. Is it more difficult to hang up the phone than it is to change the station or channel?
1. Fat Cat Media Moguls might sell off some stations for starters.
Candidates would likely DO more newsworthy events to get some screen time on the evening news. They also would not need so much corporate money to run.
The playing field would be a bit more level.
I have no trouble hanging up on any calls I do not wish to take. I LOVE election night GOTV calls cuz my area is so overwhelmingly GOP the callers assume you are one of them I love to do improvisational characters and keep them on the line as long as possible, feigning confusion and needing their expert advice ;) I figure the longer I keep those callers on the line on election day/evening, the fewer GOP voters they will remind to vote!
