On Negroes and Nancy-boys
Well, we had this bust ass Mardi Gras party last night.
35-40 people.
Miz t. cooked for a week.
The booze flowed and the mountains of food were consumed.

Folks all over the place - half a dozen conversation groups in the great room, another bunch in the bay room, and more out on the screened porch. Bear in mind that our guests are all from the neighborhood. Most live on the same street.

And, horror of horrors, some of the talk turned to religion and politics.
uh-oh

I joined the group on the porch for a smoke and they were talking about homosexuality. A Dem friend was holding forth about it not being a 'choice', etc., etc.

Another guy I don't know very well (his wife and Miz t. are friends) just got all huffy and went on about how wrong that theory was and how it's against the teachings of the bible and maybe even some kind of communist plot and the same tired old right-wing drivel. And got up and walked out. Really pissed. Oh yeah, he's a retired FBI agent. :eyes:

And I looked over at the couple who are good friends of mine, and neighbors of the FBI guy, and they have a gay son. They exchanged glances and looked at me and we all did kind of a simultaneous eye-roll shoulder shrug.
jeez

Later a woman come over to me. Self professed Democrat.
Hates Bush.
"So who do you like? Barack or Hillary?"
"Well, I voted early, last Wednesday, and went for Edwards."
"I liked him too, but I guess he's out of it now. I don't know about Obama. I JUST CAN'T GET PAST HIS PURPLE LIPS."
"What?"
"He just turns me off. And his wife got up on stage and did that little Negro dance after the debate."
"Ann, are you listening to yourself? I haven't heard the term 'Negro' in about 40 years. Jeez, lady."
She decided it was time to hit the buffet again and turned away.

I guess last night I found out some things about folks I know that I didn't really want to know.
:-(

1. Man. I knew it was bad, but that's really bad.
She probably thinks she's not racist, too. *sigh*
