That's what my daughter just asked me on the phone. I guess I was supposed to mediate an arguement with her SO.

Her reasoning was how you can help an addict 100 times over and over and get hurt in the process only to watch em use again. If they don't want to stop they won't, so we should just pull out and let them go through withdraws until they decide to get better.

I love her! I also love the analogy.

What say ye?

2. Personally, I think it's we who are the addicts...
...and the Iraqis are just the poor bastards unlucky enough to be living on top of a motherlode of our favorite fix.

Don't think for a second the US went into Iraq out of anything other than pure self-interest. We want the oil and if it takes one, two, ten, or thirty million dead Iraqis to get it, it's a price we're willing to make them pay.

3. Yeah you are right, it's more like we are the addict and Iraq is like
the meth house or crack house that we decided to stick up for their product. And since the owner of the house (Saddam) is a petty drug dealer, abusive to his kids and is disliked by his neighbors we were able to convince the community that the reason we broke into the house was to rescue the kids from the abusive father Saddam even though we killed a couple of his kids in the process. Do you think this story will hold up in court?

4. Only Tom Cruise and his Scientology buddies can save Iraq?
The insurgency is composed of suppressive persons.
