The Hypocrisy of safety vs air travel, common sense and FEAR
I just wonder how many other air travelers feel the way that I do? I just got back from a short flight from Raleigh to Tampa. In Raleigh, you have your liquids in plastic bags that can stay in your carry on. In Tampa, all of those plastic bags must to come out. When you travel to the UK, you don't have to remove your laptop or take off your shoes when entering the UK. Of course, in our brave country that protects our freedoms, we need to do both.

So, it just came to me that under our so called leaders and protectors, in their effort to protect us, they've pretty much allowed the terrorists to win. We are a country of wimps, enacting useless processes that lead to nothing but delays, but no real increase in safety (since as news items often point out, inspections frequently show how easy it is to get things through their protective systems).

Why aren't we, as a country, more up in arms of how that one incident - 911, which used a methodology that was almost certainly a one shot deal - created such a horrific, needless and useless, daily pain in the ass for us all? For a country that is so cocky and boastful, we must be the biggest bunch of chicken shit scaredy cats in the whole world. We must be an utter laughing stock to other cultures!

Just chafing at how much of a pain in the ass it all is, for no real useful reason.

1. The terrorists are We, the People... I think the government has made that perfectly clear
I'm sure BushCo doesn't have to go through that crap before they fly. Only we pee-ons do. :grr:

2. Have you ever heard George Carlin's routine about airport security?
I think you'd like it. Eerily prescient, it was done BEFORE 9/11, but
is amazingly accurate about how we have the ILLUSION of security.

You might want to see if it's on youtube, it's great!

And yes, I agree. A lot of it seems pretty useless and nonproductive to me.

3. Airline crews agree...
Too much of a good thing is a bad thing. The government run amok.

Are we safer now? Well that's debatable. But what a paranoid, pain in the ass the process has turned into.

Any time we leave the house, we incur risk. There are people who may rob, or even murder us outright. But that doesn't mean we should get black belt's in Karate or carry a shotgun.

Enough is enough. SOme common sense please.

4. Yup. I was flying to the UK not long after 911 - speaking to the cabin crew
as they passed out the plastic cuttlery in business class. Their view is that little of what was changed made us inherently safer, but "it made people feel like something was being done, so made people feel safer". Boggles the mind!!!!!!!!!!
