Proposed Nomination Process Reforms...Looking for input
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 01:54 AM by Ken Burch
These are from a resolution I'll be presenting to our local caucus Tuesday night. I see them as a basis for organizing a party reform movement. What do you think? Any additional suggestions?

1. A strict, party-enforced BAN on the receipt or solicitation of corporate campaign contributions to Democratic presidential candidates during the primary process;
2. A pledge from ALL Democratic presidential candidates to boycott any televised debates from which the host television networks exclude ANY Democratic presidential candidate;
3. A reduction in the threshold level for viability at the caucus level from 15% to 5%, so that Democratic candidates are enabled to present themselves to the voters of as many caucus and primary states as possible;
4. Allocation of presidential primary delegates by strict overall proportional representation, so that Democratic candidates representing the full spectrum of Democratic can be considered by Democratic voters in as many states as possible;
5. Provision of funds by the Democratic National Committee for television advertising for Democratic presidential candidates who are unable to afford it or are limited in their ability to afford it, so that all Democratic candidates, not just those with the highest level of campaign funds;.
6. A requirement that the next Democratic president place an early priority on securing Congressional approval of public funding for all Presidential and Congressional campaigns.
7. A single NATIONAL primary and caucus date, so that the votes of all Democrats count equally in the nominating process.

1. Everyone vote on one day. Just like the generals. This pisses me off!
Both my first and second choices are no longer in the race. The people in in Ohio and all those early states got to cast votes for Kucinich and Edwards. With me being in Maryland. I won't get that chance. That's not fair. I don't know why Maryland is going to bother hold a primary. Decissions have been made that I was not allowed to be a part of. Now I just get to choose between two candidates that are in a vicious battle to be the first reach la la land. Niether one is even close to the reality of what this nation really needs. That's Bush and Cheneys asses in jail and the corporation put in thier place.

2. 6 regional primaries.. 1 month apart
states are contiguous, so it's easy for candidates to get around

One each month , starting in Feb..all done in July..

Conventions in August and debates in Sept Oct..

easy peasy..

Iowa & NH could still "do their own thing"

..........................

Create a POLITICS channel and give each viable candidate FREE time...ONLY positive time for THEIR proposals & policies..

........................

End the TV adverstising by candidates TOTALLY..

Then they no longer NEED lobby money :evilgrin:.

make it a crime to take any :)
