Vets and their families on the Streets
Hundreds of Iraq Vets are Homeless

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/173154490/site/newsweek/

Kevin Felty came back from Iraq in 2003 with nowhere to stay, and not enough money to rent an apartment. He and his wife of four years moved in with his sister in Florida, but the couple quickly overstayed their welcome. Jobless and wrestling with what he later learned was (PTSD) ,Felty suddenly found himself scrambling to find a place for himself and his wife, who was six-months pregnant. They found their way to a shelter for homeless veterans, which supported his wife during her pregnancy and helped Felty get counseling and find a job.

Ok its just not Walter Reed these kids are not finding jobs or being taken care of after discharge. I am tired of the Right claiming to support the troops. We are seeing more and more stories that tear our hearts out. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP! Its not only Veterans out there with Families. Bush and company have sold this Country to the highest bidder. Just a Little Rant

19. I second that!
You rant away, Monkeyman.

This is disgusting and disgraceful!

Our Vets have laid their lives on the line
and they are treated like this?

There's a special place in hell for those
who are responsible.

:grr:

7. looks like another problem in serious need of investigation
This article left me with many questions. I'm sure if the right people put their heads together, they'd come up with scores of questions that need to be addressed.

This is wrong on so many levels, I can't wrap my head around it.

10. I know this isn't the way to combat this, but is there anyway that...
we at DU can raise some money and/or homes for these people, to at least get them by while trying to get them noticed by those that can do something for them. Maybe a campaign to let some of the MSM know will help, not necessarily the US MSM, I was thinking Canada, Europe, and maybe even places like South America..

15. I know that this is going to come across as offensive, but how about...
instead of patting each other on the ass, we get out there and do something about this in a constructive manner! These people really, really need our help, and they really don't give a shit about words... Talk is cheap as they say... Now lets move out, and get to the bottom of this...... Thanks for listening to my rant...

17. One of our VFP members was talking today about getting jumped
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 08:52 PM by lwfern
He was attacked outside his home by a guy with a sickle. (!) The guy was trying to kill him, got in a good swipe at his head, with lots of blood. Our guy fought back, so they were wrestling on the ground, and a street vet who knew our VFP guy came to help. (With some confusion, telling our guy to "let go" of the other guy, and while they were still on the ground fighting for control of the sickle, our guy had to explain he was being attacked, not the other way around. The street guy said that made more sense, it didn't sound like something our guy would normally do. The way he was telling it was hilarious, like there was the battle for his life going on, while at the same time discussing with the other guy if it was within his character or not to attack strangers on the street.)

Anyway. The police came, an ambulance was called because he needed stitches where his head had been hacked open. In the end, he had to refuse the ambulance, because the ambulance service in our city won't bring people to the VA hospital. They have contracts with the private hospitals, so they will only bring people there. He had to sign a waiver for the police rejecting ambulance service, and get to the VA hospital on his own.

I don't know how common that is, but it seems to me if the ambulance company is using the public infrastructure (911 service), they ought to be obligated to get a veteran to a VA hospital if there is one in the area and he doesn't have other health insurance. Is that too much to ask?

Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 09:29 PM by utopiansecretagent
- and goddamn all the other fucking neocons who lied us into this war and continue fucking lying and covering up all the atrocities involved. Goddamn the complicit media for not digging deeper for truth, sooner than later, and towing the neocon/corporate line - whether for profit or because of intimidation by these fucking fascists.

Goddamn them all to fucking hell.

Just when you think you can't get any more outraged....

Is there any fucking end to this?

This is surreal.

edit: sorry if anyone's offended by the language, but there are truly no expletives to convey how fed up I am with this utter BULLSHIT!

Do we need any more proof that our troops are not being taken care of. Bring them home now.
