This year we moved from Missouri to Illinois, where I found myself not only in very Republican Kane County, but living in Denny Hastert's home district. Gahhh! Have been told by many that ratio of Republicans to Democrats here is better than two to one. This past month I looked up statistics for the district and discovered it was even worse than 2 to 1: in the last primary, 63,473 voters chose the Republican ballot, while 25,049 went Democratic.

Tonight, with 98.21% of the votes tallied, there were 35,077 Republicans and 35111 DEMOCRATS. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

4. There's been a LOT of suburbabization out your way over the last 4 or 5 years.

Chicago Dems are pushing the country repubs farther and farther west, out to toward Iowa/MyCritters territory.

It was a Republican stronghold when I left 30 years ago and by golly, it still is. Good to see we Dems are infiltrating. I'd like to think maybe some old Repubs are getting a clue now, too.

Looks like Foster vs. Oberweis in the March election, and then again in November. You'd think folks would be pissed enough at Hastert for making this costly special election necessary that they wouldn't vote for his protege, but I guess not.

Looks like Foster is the winner here. Going against Oberweis (aka the Milk Nazi). I actually think Foster will have a better chance against him than Laesch would have, so I'm tentatively optimistic. If Oberweis wins in March, it'll be a nightmare.

16. Right now we don't have a rep in Congress thanks to Hastert. Isn't that special?

Today we had two primary ballots -- one for the general election and one for the special election. As I understand it -- and I could be mistaken because I haven't met anyone yet who's really clear on what's going on -- the winners in the special primary will be on the ballot in early March, when we will then finally vote for Hastert's replacement from March until next january. Then this fall we will again vote for the winners from today's general primary to take their seat in Congress in January. Sound confusing? It is. Right now it looks like Foster vs. Oberweis in March and then Foster vs. Oberweis in November. Thanks, Denny. :crazy:
