Bill requiring doctors to tell women life begins at conception clears Senate Health comm. in IN
I was surprised this didn't cause huge uproar. I think it's as bad as the death certificates for abortions. It's another way for women to be forced into parenthood. Am I overreacting?

"INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A bill requiring doctors to tell women seeking an abortion that human life begins at conception cleared the Senate Health Committee Wednesday, but the proposal’s future is uncertain.

The bill would require doctors to inform women seeking abortions that “an embryo formed by the fertilization of a human ovum by a human sperm immediately begins to divide and grow as human physical life.”

Bill sponsor Sen. Patricia Miller, R-Indianapolis, said she would continue working with critics of the measure to find a compromise. She said she was unsure whether she would let the current bill advance on the Senate floor.

"INDIANAPOLIS-- A bill requiring doctors to tell women seeking an abortion that human life begins at conception drew criticism before a Senate committee Wednesday that the provision is built around a specific religious belief not widely shared by all faiths.

The Rev. Michael D. Mather of Broadway United Methodist Church in Indianapolis told the Senate health committee that not even fellow Methodists agree on when human life begins."

4. It is as bad
If it hasn't been commnted on, it's because this administration and it's sympathisers serve up so many fresh outrages every day, that some slip by.

5. Urologists should be required to tell all men
that human life begins with ejaculation.

And if they don't want to murder life, maybe they should get vasectomies.

7. Isn't that sinful to them?
They will enjoy sex without procreation. Anything that interferes with conception is homicide to these nuts.

14. "every sperm is sacred"
:eyes:

Maybe this crazy bitch can figure out a bill that allows people to sue Jesus for spontaneous abortions and miscarriages. :grr:

9. In the 14th century, masturbation carried a death sentence
Masturbation "killed" future life. It looks we're headed back into the dark ages.

10. Then all women in Indiana should, upon finding out they are pregnant,
purchase a life insurance policy for $1 million. That's right. Had I been able to do that, I would be $3 million richer for the two miscarriages (a single and twins) that I had.

Of course no company will issue an insurance policy for a fetus. A lawsuit will follow.

THEN we'll see when life begins.

16. Great thought...
maybe we should put pressure on politicians to pass a law requiring insurance companies to issue policies on fetuses.

11. There is so much ignorance on both sides of this issue.

I love how the fundies quote science with this, but they don't talk about evolution. Then I love how people on our side are willing to overturn one of the most fundamental pieces of biology just to win the argument.

Science may not fare well in the near future, because both sides use it to further their political goals.

12. This reminds me of the old joke about when life begins
A minister, a priest and a rabbi are talking about when life begins.
The priest says, in his church, life begins at the moment of conception when the sperm fertilizes the egg.
The minister says, in his church, that life begins when the mother feels the first fetal movement, at the moment of quickening, about 4 months.
The rabbi says, "You are both wrong. Life begins when the kid goes to college and the dog dies!!!!

17. I thought Life Began at 40?
Maybe I should change to a religion that isn't based off of the various sayings on coffee mugs. I'm having a spiritual crisis. I guess I should go talk to The World's Greatest Grandma in my office about this.

18. My reply to the doctor that does this: duh. Of course that new
individual life begins at conception. SO WHAT?

It's in my uterus against my wishes. I don't care if it's alive or dead or made of green cheese, I want it GONE, buddy.
