Eugene Fields, 69, was sentenced to 14 days in the Sebastian County Jail on Tuesday after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated and refusing a breath test. Fields was arrested Friday night after a Fort Smith police officer saw him weaving in and out of his lane and nearly striking an oncoming vehicle.
The arresting officer wrote that Fields had a "strong odor of intoxicants" and Fields told police he had about four beers at a bar. The officer tried giving Fields a sobriety test, but stopped.
"Fields could not keep his balance. I then stopped all tests for his safety," the officer wrote in the accident report. When he was taken to jail, Fields refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Friday's arrest was Fields' second since he was granted clemency by Huckabee, who left office in January 2007 and is now seeking the Republican presidential nomination.
