Mittens Quits Means Repugs Will Now Unite.
Mitt quits, this is the beginning of the Gop unity movement.

While we have no clear front runner since Super Tuesday and we part- take in internecine brawls, they have now cleared the path for one candidate. The battle against McNut will die out and they will unite.

We have just witnessed the coalescence of the opposition party against us.

That’s the big picture.

That’s the threat to our cause which is winning the GE.

Goober will stay in to keep the fundy’s engaged and involved.

In the end, Goober will get something ( VP? Ambassador? Cabinet?) and then step down and swing the fundy’s to McNut with his “blessing.”

The Goppers should never be underestimated. This was a strategic move on behalf of their party.

Plus, it keeps Mittens in play for 2012. But, for us, that's a side show. For us, it's about 2008 at the moment.

1. Unite How - Fundies want Huckabee but McCain is still in the lead
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 02:11 PM by LynneSin
it's a dogfight - hardly overwith simply because Romney dropped out.

And edit note: that's bullshit to think that there is a benefit to having one candidate determined early somehow benefits the party.

They gave us that bullshit back in 2002 when Republicans went with Mike Fisher for PA Governor whereas the democrats had a major dogfight between frontrunner Bob Casey Jr. and underdog former Philly mayor Ed Rendell. Those 2 democrats spent nearly $40mil in their primary race that wasn't resolved until the May primaries whereas Fisher spent little money during that time period.

Rendell scored an upset over the son of former governor Bob Casey Sr. but I think that dogfight kept those candidates in the news and would have generated great momentum for whomever got the nominee for the democrats. Rendell went on to win by 12pts in the fall election.

3. For the Repugs it will stop the division.
McNut will get the nomintation.

Goober will stay in the race as a token candidate for the religious right. If he drops out the religious right might have lost interest early.

But, in the end Goober will throw his support and his fundy's behind McNut.

"And edit note: that's bullshit to think that there is a benefit to having one candidate determined early somehow benefits the party."-LynneSin

Their party is benefitted. Mittens will no linger be out there attacking McNut and Goober as you know, has not attacked him, he's a "soft" opponent.

8. I read IMDB news everyday....
...that's the Internet Movie Database - where you can find out who stars in what movie, or how much someone grossed or what kind of ratings TV shows are getting.

The democrat debates have been getting high ratings because we have a real race going on right now. I want that momentum to continue on thru the convention. Having a dogfight between what I believe are 2 flawed but qualified candidates are going to keep these two in the news and should hopefully bring us a convention that people will actually watch this time.

25. What about once the primaries are over? Will we still be split?
Will Dems unite if their candidate loses the primary? or will a large precetnage stay away?

If the lengthy primaries simply further fuel emotions and harden opinions then we can and will likley lose to (puke) McBomb
if our party cannot come together for the GE's--and that is my main concern.

My secondary concern is - that if the repubs had stayed divided longer so much the better for us. Now, they may have to shut the mouths of the punditocracy (Rushlimpag eats crow and Viagra!) and actually rally behind a guy they don't like.

12. here is some poll info.
As of 1-30-08 McNut is the front runner for the Repugs.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls/

“In the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination, the big news today is that Mitt Romney is leaving the race. Rasmussen Reports noted earlier in the week that Super Tuesday Primaries would deliver John McCain enough delegates to wrap up the nomination. The final Rasmussen Reports daily tracking poll of the Republican race showed John McCain at 39%, Mitt Romney at 29%, and Mike Huckabee at 18%. Ron Paul was supported by 7% of Likely Republican Primary Voters (see recent daily numbers). The good news for Republicans is that they’ve selected their nominee well before the Democrats and could have a several month head start on the campaign. There’s plenty of bad news for the GOP ranging from the issues environment to the fact that a growing number of Americans consider themselves to be Democrats. As if that wasn’t enough, some in the Grand Old Party want to spend the next few months resolving internal battles rather than focusing on the Democrats. “
-http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Here are some match up polls:

McNut vs. Clinton:

McNut vs. Obama

Breaking Polls: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/

National Poll:
Clinton 44%
Obama 44%

National Poll:
McCain 39%
Romney 29%
Huckabee 18%

9. Unfortunately, Huckabee won't last much longer.
He's really far behind McCain in the polls and in the primaries/caucuses that are already done. And Paul's totally punk'd - he's only getting a few delegates.

So yeah, I have to agree with bluedawg12 - pretty soon the Repugs are going to turn their sights on Clinton and Obama, and they'll get several months of bashing in on them while they're still slugging it out, maybe all the way to the convention.

At least we're raising a shitload more money than they are, maybe that'll help our defenses a bit.

I am a disgruntled libertarian-Republican who plans to vote for the Democrat in November.
There are MANY more Repubs than anyone suspects out here who want an end to this useless war.
We don't like being called anti-American or anti-Semitic, but we WILL vote for an antiwar candidate.
Obama needs to beat the war issue to death and point out how the crappy economy is because of the war.
If he does, he will win the nomination and election. If Hillary does not run as antiwar, she will lose to that god-awful McCain.

16. Good point- hopefully by limiting thier choice
repubs, who will no longer have a more moderate (maybe?) mittens to pick from and it's down to McBomb and goober- will be unable to stomach voting for someone like McN, so proud of his pro-shrub-war stance.

The war was such a debacle that dems have got to keep hammering that- we ingored Afghanistan at our peril and got dragged into a 100 year war that is draining our resources and raising the national debt and diverting troops and money from the real threat while weakening our over extended military. That is not a traditional conservative view of foretign policy nor strong national defense.

I thnk McNut is re-waging Nam with the hopes of winnning this time-- only what winning is, has not been defined, nor has it gotten closer.

19. In his words: Mittens steps aside for unity
>>Finally, near the end of the address, when the mere mention of McCain's name brought a loud chorus of boos, Romney said he disagrees with the Arizona senator on a number of issues, but that he agrees on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq and finding and executing Osama bin Laden. "Now, if I fight on with my campaign all the way to the convention ... I want you to know, I've given this a lot of thought ... I forestall the launch of a national campaign, and frankly I'd be making it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win. Frankly, in this time of war I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror. This isn't an easy decision. I hate to lose. ... If this were only about me, I would go on, but it's never been only about me. I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America in this time of war I feel I have to step aside for our party and for our country." <<

Why did Mitt do so horribly? Because he was trying to act like a gun toting, tough guy, war monger president, when in fact, he should've just focused on being who he really is, a guy in a suit.

If Mitt just played up his managerial and CEO credentials, he would've done much better because people are worried shitless about the economy.

something tells me the electorate's not going to buy it. Are they all of a sudden going to wipe away all of the smearing and badmouthing that Rush, Hannity et al have been spewing for months now?

The American public at large is sick and tired of the war, and they don't give a shit about terrorist boogeymen down the dark alleys when they're just trying to figure out how to pay their bills.

The repubs are dead this year, and probably for some time to come. The only thing that I can see drastically changing things in their favor is by some "chance" there's a major terrorist attack her in this country. Even then, I'm not so sure people would buy into the bullshit all over again. Times are different now, and we've got severe bush fatigue. The lies and deceptions are dripping out slowly but surely.
