Watch a youtube replay in slow motion, and you'd see that the ball was out of hansbrough's hands BEFORE henderson even jumped off the ground. It was one of the most malicious moves I'd ever seen on a basketball court.

Obviously started by someone who knows or cares little about college basketball. Duke-UNC is the biggest rivalry in college sports. Last year in the last game of the year Gerald Henderson came down with a flagrant foul that broke the nose of UNC's star player. It was so bad that he was suspended for the next game. That only increased the bad blood felt between these 2 perennial BB powerhouses whose campuses are a mere 10-12 miles apart. And anyone who's ignorant enough to make this into something racial is just that, ignorant. As is anyone who thinks this doesn't happen to white players. As asked, does the name J.J. You've got a donor star taterguy, so just in case your memory has failed you, you could search DU archives for 'Duke,' and 'LaCrosse' and you would find some awfully hateful stuff said about some white athletes who, however rich and stupid and arrogant they might have been, were innocent of all charges leveled against them.

I am of the mind that racism = prejudice + power, and I am aware enough of modern realities to know that power still rests more often on the white side of the color line in most racial disputes. But in that Duke LaCrosse case, the black accuser had the full power of the state on her side for a period of months (and before his eventual disgrace and deserved disbarment Nifong was a powerful guy). The white LaCrosse athletes had just enough money and power to fight off the charges, but too many here at DU were of the mind to kill 'em all and let God (or earthworms) sort out the truth later.

In the case you cite in the OP, some fans have some xeroxed pieces of paper. It would be a stretch to say that the text and graphic on there is prejudiced (I've seen plenty of mock 'Wanted' posters of white guys - I had one of Reagan in the Iran Contra days), but those fans have no power whatsoever. They are just some shmo's consuming their bread and circus in an arena.

So, as was said above, you're reaching on this one. I'll gladly stand with you to oppose real racism, which we have plenty of here in NC. In the past two days, I had one repug neighbor first tell me that she has been giving to anti-choice groups (well, she said 'pro-life' but I consider that term bullshit). When I politely told her that I stand solidly on the pro-choice side of the issue, she confessed to me that she could understand having an abortion in the case of an inter-racial pregnancy. :grr: :grr: :wtf:

Now that is some fucked-up racism (not to mention some truly bizarre hypocrisy). Because this neighbor is an old lady who recently lost her husband (and because we share a well, and I was at her house to pay my share of the water/electricity), I kept my cool and just politely said that I knew many beautiful children with parents of varied ancestries and colors.

Then today, I was passed by some fool in a black pickup with TWO confederate flags flying high on poles in the bed of the truck. That way apparently, we can know he is a racist, or at least an ignoramus, whether he is coming or going.

Given that one need not travel far in NC to find obvious racism in dire need of fighting, I think you could find some better issues to get excited about today.
