Great news on the peace movement in Britain

CNN International has been reporting large anti-war demonstrations in Great Britain. Downing St is the site of one. An estimated 80% of the British public favor withdrawal and most feel the Blair announcement on withdrawal has come late.

The refusal of Senate Republicans to debate the situation in Iraq exemplifies their arrogance towards democracy. They want to democratize regions of the world that suit their politics, but they no longer believe in democracy here at home. More and more, republicans demonstrate that they only believe in representative government for the privileged class. They are determined to maintain a corporate government elected and protected by a large evangelical base. Our democracy hangs precariously in the balance and 2008 looms as important as ever before. If we intend to hold on to our liberty and democratic republic, then we are going to have to fight for it.
