Hey .... MSNBC ......... Misogyny Should Never Be Condoned

Thankfully, Media Matters is on the case.

On edit ..... I don't want Shuster's head on a platter. I want Capus' head on a platter. I want Matthews' head on the same platter, along with Fat Timmeh's. I also want MORE women in permanent slots on their air time.

Rachel Maddow would be the perfect one to occupy a new chair in place of the one that the Carlson boy has been farting in for far too long.

4. Misogyny?
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 08:04 PM by wtmusic
"Doesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?"

First, for for all the kneejerkers: I have no argument with the notion that misogynistic comments make it on to MSNBC 50 times a day.

But in this particular case Shuster is saying the elder Clintons were treating Chelsea like a whore. An obnoxious and inappropriate comment, but if someone claims it's misogynistic I'm gonna do a search on your username and find every instance you referred to someone, male or female, as a "whore", "media whore", etc.

8. Fine, search me!
No, this is clear in its intent, even if "poor" David Shuster can't quite muster the sense to understand it.

If anyone was "pimped out" in this campaign it should have been the Romney boys. Not one little, tiny whelp out of Shuster and his posse of little "guys" on that little gaggle...

15. I think maybe the real pimps are the "Boys in the Club." Multi-millionaire
celebrity hosts of 24/7 infotainment channels preaching their bosses own special interest. Who exactly is Shuster "pimping" for.

Leave talk like that in the locker room.

16. Please search on my name as well
I've been here seven years. I'd love to see what you might unearth, because to my knowledge, the only time I used the word "whore" on this website was to reference the desperately missed mediawhoresonline.com.

The comment about Chelsea Clinton was waaaay over the line. I don't care for the Bush girls, but I don't care for the constant use of the word "whore", either. It's a very loaded word, especially for women.

18. So accusing someone of treating someone else like a whore
is misogynistic?

19. Ask any woman how they feel about the word "whore"
Be sure and ask them if they've ever been called a "whore" as well, and what their thoughts were on that.

Julie

p.s. By the way, did I use the word "whore" to describe any female in any of my postings over the past seven years?

29. I didn't look, I trust you, but you're still missing the point.
Accusing anyone of treating someone else like a whore indicates misogyny? That is the point.

20. here's the thing
sure, "whore" in that sense can apply to men as well as women - but people in the media don't USE it for men - they did not call Romney's sons WHORES when they PIMPED FOR THEIR DAD. Get it? It's really not so much the remark as it is the sheer hatred of Clintons in general that is the problem

11. This has nothing directly to do with the campaigns
This is about something that was said by a teevee yakker that was incredibly offensive about the daughter of candidate. Its a media story, not a primaries story.

12. MSNBC Hates Women?
Actually, MSNBC's news coverage tilts left as far as cable networks go.

MSNBC reporters, anchors, staff certainly make mistakes just as anyone else in the 24/365 hour television business .. but misogyny?

That's a bit ... no, a whole lot of exaggeration.

14. First off, I don't much care about what Shuster said ......
.... after an apology, I can live with it. I suspect most people can ...... except maybe Shuster himself.

The misogynists are Matthews and Russert. And Capus lets it happen, even as he has the power to stop it.

There's a very big difference between a single slip, no matter how awful, and a pattern of such behavior. Matthews and Russert exhibit such a pattern. For his part, there's no way on this earth Capus is unaware of the complaints about those two.

21. here's the thing, as I see it
Don Imus was referring directly to the women on the basketball team as nappy-headed ho's. For no reason other than that he thought it was funny, and he'd been allowed to get away with all kinds of crap because he earned beaucoup money for his networks.

David Shuster was asking whether other people were using Chelsea. I didn't see the show live, but from what I've read he in no way implied that she herself actually was anything like a whore... only that the people who thought that having a candidate's daughter--someone whom her parents had been very vocal about keeping out of politics--make phone calls was a good idea.

I'll admit that context is everything, and that Shuster is someone I've trusted in the past, whereas Imus seems to be a consistently giant tool. But the two situations don't seem really comparable to me.

23. wow--that middle link you posted--what a laundry list of chauvinistic crap
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 05:17 AM by orleans
that spews out of those mouths at msnbc

that piece of shit scarborough & that "don't make me backhand you" holy shit! i hadn't heard that. what would the audience reaction/staff reaction have been if she had laughed and said "you touch me and i'll kick you between the legs, joe"

all these people saying this is not misogyny--well misogyny, according to dictionary.com, means "hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women." perhaps these men don't hate, don't dislike, or don't mistrust--but i think it's obvious they don't respect women.

male chauvinist: "a man whose behavior and attitude toward women indicate a belief that they are innately inferior to men. "
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=male%20chauvinism

they are definitely a bunch of chauvinists
