David Shuster's Second Apology within Six Months...to another Female..
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 09:37 PM by KoKo01
He used a soldier's death for a Gotcha Moment with Rep. Martha Blackburn. As much as many of us don't like Blackburn...what he did was really a nasty moment. I heard it live...and was bothered by it. There's a video of what he did at the link below. BTW...I'm a fan of Shusters...or was.

Fallen Soldier MSNBC Used for 'Gotcha' Game With Rep. Blackburn Did Not Live in Her District

UPDATE -- SHUSTER APOLOGIZES: At 6:44 PM EDT, MSNBC broke into the Tucker Carlson show to air a terse apology from Shuster. See "My Take" below.

View video of Shuster apology here.

Here follows the text of Shuster apology.

DAVID SHUSTER: On Monday evening while guest-hosting the 6 p.m. evening hour, I conducted an interview with Tennessee Republican Marsha Blackburn. The congresswoman spoke at length about a newspaper ad that criticized General Petraeus. In what I believed was an effort to examine Representative Blackburn's priorities, I then asked her to name the last soldier from her congressional district killed in Iraq.

She responded "the name of the last soldier killed in Iraq from my district, I do not know." After that response, I identified who I believed to be that fallen soldier, a Tennessean killed in Iraq last month. But according to Pentagon documents, that young man came from a town inside a neighboring congressional district, not from Representative Blackburn's, and for that, I apologize for that mistake.
couple days ago, describing here the way MSNBC's David Shuster used a fallen soldier to play a tasteless "gotcha" game with Rep. Marsha Blackburn, (R-Tenn.), I surmised that things couldn't "get much lower."

I was wrong. They just did.

As it turns out, Pvt. Jeremy Bohannon -- the soldier whose name Shuster attacked Blackburn for not knowing -- had not, contrary to the MSNBC reporter's claim, lived in her district.

By way of background for those who hadn't read the earlier item, Blackburn had been invited onto "Tucker" ostensibly to discuss MoveOn.org's "General Betray Us" ad. But Shuster, serving as substitute host for Carlson, suddenly sandbagged Blackburn with this "gotcha" question.

2. You're defending Marsha Freaking Blackburn??
Do you even know what kind of right-wing hack she is? Shuster exposed her as the sociopath she is, and she got pissed about it. Shuster's only error was that he got the name wrong, which changes nothing about what a twisted piece of shit Blackburn is.

Do you really want to compare the two women? Really?

4. Did you go to the link and read about the whole incident?
He didn't get the soldiers name wrong. He got the district the soldier died in wrong. It wasn't Marcia Blackburn's district...but he did a Gotcha when he had the facts wrong. I saw it live...it was smarmy.

5. I saw it live, too. The name/district question is moot
He wanted to name a soldier in her district and he got it wrong. Arguing about which bit of the equation he screwed up on is useless.

I thought it was a beautiful burn when it happened and Blackburn looked like the fool she is. Too bad Shuster made the mistake -- it had no effect on what a creep Blackburn is.

8. So, you think a "gotcha moment " is what Blackburn deserved...you think Chelsea's a Whore?
You think her parents are Pimping her? You think this is the way a person should be talked to?

3. Everything is relative. When Shuster filled in for Matthews
he appeared great.

It is clear that the MSNBC/Newsweek men are falling over each other to tarnish Clinton any way they can.

9. Shuster's remarks about Chelsea being "pimped" were
reprehensible and warrants his suspension. No ifs, ands or buts about that.

Taking a politico to task... not so much, IMO.

But then again, I have little regard for politicians in general, no regard for gop politicians, and rarely defend them.

Blackburn chose to defend betrayus, so I would expect she would also be well versed with the names of the dead children, wives, husbands, parents in TN that betrayus commands. If she had weighed her opinion against the backdrop of the soldiers who have given their lives in service to their count - no strike that - oil barons, then Shuster's "gotcha" moment may have been in poor taste. I applauded him for that.

11. Screw Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)
I don't care if she is a woman or man she is a Republican Pig.

* She voted YES on the Military Commissions Act, which removed the protection of habeas corpus and allows the President to authorize torture of enemy combatants.

* She voted against preventing interrogators form treating prisoners in a cruel, inhumane, or degrading fashion and requiring them to adhere to the Army regulations in interrogation.

* She voted YES on the Electronic Surveillance Modernization Act which would authorize Bush’s program of warrantless — that is to say, without oversight or justification — electronic surveillance to continue.

Not content to cowardly throw away the Constitution and American ideals, Blackburn also adheres to the agenda of the radical religious right:

* Voted no on lifting the ban on embryonic stem cell research; to Blackburn, a frozen embryo is as much a person as a living breathing human being with Parkinson’s

* Voted to interfere with the Schiavo case by moving it to Federal jurisdiction. To Blackburn, it is acceptable for the government to meddle in the most private of decisions, no matter how many courts have already defended the right of the husband to carry out his wife’s wishes.

She also opposes a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq and approves of Delay’s gutting of the House Ethics Committee. No one who has any concern for intrusive government, for individual liberty, or for government corruption could support someone with Blackburn’s record. Just to put a little icing on the cake, she also thinks that Bush’s tax cuts are more important than paying for Bush’s war

(she voted to make them permanent) and that cutting taxes for oil companies is a better plan for energy independence than alternative energy. In just about every way one can be wrong, she is wrong.

which this time I found .........wanting... in your analogy..

Usually you are pretty good.

We must defend Republican women at all cost,
I must obey, it is right, it is the thing to do...

Never-mind countless lives were effected and lost by her vote and opinions.

19. Listen, in California my neighbors use that word
to describe bring out, putting on show, making it seen.

I told them I don't like the word and it is a middle class neighborhood
and the people using it are from 16-32.

I'm still trying to figure out Jonezing.

Was he right to use it on Clinton? Of course not, but if you keep
defending that republican to make a point, you have lost your perspective
on what really is important.

no respect of female that is going on and has swept our nation culturally. i think a lot of stupid remarks being said about men have become so accepted at all times, in all places that they are no longer seeing a problem with it.

17. These aren't at all comparable.
Assuming that Blackburn was indeed owed an apology, Shuster's offense had nothing to do with her being a woman.

21. sorry but I don't see what blackburn being a female has to do with any of this. Schuster...
could have said the same thing to a male congressperson. I remember that interview with blackburn and her faux patriotism horseshit. He called her out on her nonsense and she deserved it.

As for the pimping thing. Hmmm. It actually is ridiculous the way Chelsea has free reign to lobby for her mother but is somehow untouchable at 28 years old, however, "pimping" would seem to mean she is being forced to campaign for her mom and I highly doubt that's the case. I get what he meant and I'm just enough not pc to not care. He's a great reporter and I hope he comes back. And if Chelsea is gonna actively lobby superdelegates she should be available for questions.

22. I would expect a congress woman to know the name of someone who died in Iraq in her district.
I know the name of the only person who died in my city in Iraq. It was on the front page of the newspaper, and she went to school with me.
