WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE?
Several individuals claim they are being involuntarily recalled for placement in the Army Reserve, despite having been out of the Army for over two years. Apparently the referenced action is being taken because of the Army’s ongoing manning problems. There has always been a continuing liability for recall after separation, but this back door draft is understandably greeted with surprise and concern. Even though it’s a volunteer army, these guys didn’t sign up with the idea of spending their entire lives in the desert. This compulsory military service - against the individual’s will - is outrageous.

One back door draft soldier wrote that his contract ended 2 Aug 06 but he's still stuck in Iraq with 6 months left to serve.

He is one of the lucky ones

4. As a Vet and an American I respect and thank them
But when you volunteer to serve under Bush, you get what you get.

I wouldn't have any part of it.

But good luck brothers and sisters....

13. One And The Same...
People are well aware that a lot of the economic problems are a direct result of the mess in Iraq. It's the higher oil prices and huge defecits that have destroyed the value of the dollar. The first step in restoring the economy will be removing the billions of dollars squandered on the Iraq fiasco. These two issues should be linked in the upcoming election.

7. when you sign an army contract it is a 8 year contract
for example i signed a contract for four years active duty, that means i have 4 years IRR or backdoor draft. their are people right now, probably on their 3rd tour, when they get out they will more then likely be pulled back in.

8. I am Outraged ! ks for this information
Thank you for more information to add to my own list of gripes, fearmongering, and fascism brought to us by the current administration, including Congress...

If Outrage were enough, these poor folks would be home by now, and so many others would not have died.

How do we get past outrage, fear and disgust ? What will it take? How do we change this insanity if there is no recourse when we vote?

ha, I feel like I'm asing the priest, "How do I Believe in God after... (place your disaster here)"

15. Easy way to get out of this
If you get a letter for IRR call-up reply with a copy of the UCMJ stating your refusal to obey an illegal order. This War and Occupation IS ILLEGAL, I don't care what kind of lipstick you put on it, it is not going to change this fact. Why more troops don't do this is beyond me. Once you realize this is Bush's war and not our country's war it might make it easier to tell the military to go fuck off. Perhaps, it was my low tolerance for bullshit and people blowing smoke up my ass that I never made it through OCS. They said I had problems with authority.

19. Jail or death?
Seems like a stark choice, but if it's all you have left, jail seems like the preferable alternative. The CIA did the math and decided that they'd rather face charges of obstructing justice for destroying those videotapes than getting hauled before a tribunal on charges of crimes against humanity.

If the spooks in the CIA can do it, the men and women who have had their trust so miserably abused need to make their own decision.
