Saudi preachers blame sinners for lack of rain - Has nothing to do with living in a desert

RIYADH (AFP) - Saudi preachers on Saturday conducted prayers for rain in their desert kingdom and blamed the empty skies on sinfulness, the official Spa news agency reported.

"Misfortune does not befall (a country) unless sins have been committed there," said the imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Sheikh Abderrahman bin Abdel Aziz al-Sudeiss.

The sheikh, a critic of what he calls the "goodly number of people who chase after forbidden pleasures," singled out as particularly responsible for the lack of rain "corruption, bribery and the search for ill-gotten gain."

In the capital, Riyadh, prayers were conducted by the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdelaziz al-Sheikh, who heads the highest religious authority in the kingdom. snip

Saudi Arabia is one of the most arid countries in the world and must routinely resort to desalination plants to provide enough drinking water.

1. Sonny Perdue, pickup on line 1. Sonny Perdue, line 1.
oh sorry, wrong flavor of fundies. My bad.

Wait a minute, didn't it just snow from Iraq to Jerusalem? Weird. Good thing global warming's just a myth, 'cause Bush** wouldn't have said that if it weren't true. :sarcasm:

Maybe the wrong flavor, but fundies is fundies. It all goes the same direction anyway...

6. Beat me to it.
Sonny Purdue came to mind the instant I saw the thread's title.

Oh, well! Turns out the difference between a Xtian Fundie and a Muslim fundie is roughly that of "Tastes Great" and "Less Filling."

Mike Huckabee and that Imam could have a (not) high ol' time together. They have more in common than they don't have. Just don't tell "faithful" America.

It's a test for the righteous.

;)

On edit: that's a better explanation than blaming other people.

7. Hang on for a second...
Corruption, bribery and the search for ill-gotten gain are causing the rain not to fall? Didn't he just describe the Saudi government?

I have this funny feeling that the next time they have public beheadings in Riyadh, this sheikh will be one of the people being beheaded.
