I want to apologize again for not thinking
and writing foolish words that were interpreted to be hurtful, and were hurtful.

I can't say enough times how sorry I am for being that foolish.

I was trying to be humorous and sarcastic, and was just

wrong.

I apologize from the bottom of my heart.

1. A little tip, humbly offered:
When you feel you are getting close to a line with what you are typing, step back, look at it, then delete it and move on.

There is nothing to "win" on a forum. You can lose the respect of others, however.

I've been doing this stuff for a while and I have learned the hard way.

2. thanks
and i won't be writing for some time. I feel awful.I can't tell you how awful I feel.

I tried to just be funny, and went over the line.

I'm crying because of it

no need to be so down. i have done that in the past elsewhere, on a smaller forum, and i let it get to me too (even here i've gotten myself rattled over some of my posts- Tandalayo_Scheisskopf offered some pretty dern good advice). too much is going on- i'm sure it will be forgotten before you know it, if not at least forgiven. heck i saw the thread, and i already can't remember it...

5. Oh now...
I know you might feel terrible about something you wrote in a moment of pique or weakness or drunkitude or intestinal gas or whatever. Just get back up, grab your mitt and get back in the game. You did something you are ashamed of? Who hasn't? Especially here, Skinner's Feet O' Clay Chowder, Marching and Debating Society.

Learn from it. Get better at being an active member of the community here. Keep being an active member of the community here. Dissapearing accomplishes nothing.

A bit of comfort: Any one of us on this forum could pass you on the street and never know it's you. :P

I wrote something that was interpreted as, rightfully so, racist and whatever.

I was just being an old fool. Being sarcastic and attempting humor.

I'm just an old fool who doesn't belong anymore. and my granddaughter says the same.

14. Uhoh.
You better stick, Donk. Skittles kicks gobs o' ass. Been doing it for years around here. This was a much calmer place when people were regularly reminded "Keep it up and Skittles will kick your ass". Don't tempt fate. ;-)

15. Uhh...Donk?
Please be so kind as to have your granddaughter get in touch with me. I want to have a little conversation with her regarding her sense that you are an "old fool". Not right. Not right at all.

10. "pique or weakness or drunkitude" explains a lot about
posts people regret later. That was well said! That, clashing with rubber-band-stretched nerves or terrible personal experience or world news becoming more of a shit-sandwich every day is a recipe for disaster. Once, I alerted on one of my own threads 6 or so times before it was locked/deleted.

6. Wow. I never saw the thread in question but I know
I've posted things I have DEEPLY regretted posting on DU. To think about it even a few days later made my face burn with shame. I took longer breaks away from DU and came back as gently and as evenly as possible.

11. A fool, young or old,
Would never think to apologize, or have the grace to. Moreover, a fool would never even get that he was wrong.

You'll be okay; it'll pass. Hope to see more posts from you.

(BTW, I have no idea what you posted, but it doesn't matter.)

12. You're forgiven
Come on back in, the water's fine and you're appreciated here. We all do and say dumb things from time to time - at least you have the courage and fortitude to apologize and learn from your mistake. That counts for A LOT!

:hi:

22. Everyone makes mistakes, and I'm confident you won't make the same one
I certainly accept your apology.

I know the pain when you think you've hurt someone, and you wish it was just physical pain. But it will pass with some time. Getting back in and making some thoughtful posts is the best way to get over it, so get back on tomorrow. The thread is locked and already sunk, everyone else will have forgotten and it can be a fresh start.

I've seen threads like that before but none so full of despair or abrupt. I can't stand shit like this because there's just nothing anyone can do and it's so sad & disturbing. The other posters tried to keep communicating.

31. From this DU'er I accept your apology and and think this matter
should just go down into the experience column and be forgotten.

For the record, I find you twice the man as many who post here, who would not even contemplate an apology; thank you for that dignity and respect for your fellow DU'ers.

32. Sarcasm and irony on the internet
Is almost impossible to do. The internet is an amazingly flat and cold medium in that regard. I have taken satire or kidding as honest statements and the same has been done to me. I saw a great fried write a bit of satire, and he was attacked like mad-by strangers-they could not tell it was a joke.
I have no idea what you wrote. Things are mean here and elsewhere right now. It takes huge honesty and courage to stand up and explain yourself, these traits seem to be rare around here. Also rare, real humor and the recognition of satire.
