Hitler's 'lost fleet' of U-boats found in the Black Sea
For years, German submarines U-19, U-20, and U-23 were a terrifying presence beneath the waves, preying on British and Russian shipping. Then, 60 years ago, they suddenly vanished to the bottom of the Black Sea.

1. great story
I lived in Turkey for a year (Adana) and they talked about it openly there, just surprised it took this long, the part of taking them overland is legend.

2. Cool
I went on the last surviving type II submarine this summer in Finland. It was a very interesting machine, kind of like an earth-bound version of a space capsule.

3. Intact, even.
Fascinating! I hope they bring up one of them and restore it for a museum. My hubby and I loved the U-boat exhibit at the museum in Chicago.

For a great, and extremely comprehensive, rundown of the history of the U-Boats I HIGHLY recommend Clay Blair's two novel history of the the U-Boats, an exhaustive rundown of every U-boat to serve during the war. Any war buff, naval or otherwise, will be pleased with the amount of detail and work put into both novels.

Thanks for posting this. I love this stuff!
