personal story about iraq and soldiers mental readyness.
Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 02:06 PM by fenriswolf
So i was in communications and it was the first month of being in the middle east. It was about nine at night and I was on shift to moniter our communications gear. We were set up on the edge of our camp with about a half mile walk to the main camp. Well I have to get to the bathroom and the port o potties are quite a walk. I grab my team mate and pull him into the shelter to take over and I grab my m249 saw and kevlar and tp and head to the port o potties. As I step outside my shelter it is very quite as I head towards the back lit tents.

As I near the tents I hear a voice cry out "halt"

I stop

"declare yourself"

me (wtf?) "spc hinde, 501 sig bat, 101st airbourne"

I hear the voice of my srg telling the person who halted me that I was with him.

"come forward"

as I near the voice I notice the whole camp is in the prone position pointing rifles at various places....some at me!!!!

after wiping the cold sweat away I get the story of whats going on

( i know its fox but its the only story i could find)

"FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — A sergeant accused of killing a fellow serviceman by throwing grenades into tents at a military command center in Kuwait told his mother he feared persecution because he is a Muslim and reportedly had recently been reprimanded for insubordination."

apparently this soldier was a muslim and had told his entire chain of command that he could not participate in this war, it was against his religion to attack a holy country or something of that nature. His commanders blew him off. His fellow soldiers teased him mercilessly and then this.

dont know what the moral is just thought I would share.

1. You don't have to be Muslim to know not to participate in this war
as it is an illegal one. But I know the distrust and even hatred people have of Muslims in this country is not helping matters.
