I just got the news that I won my election as Democratic precinct chair!

Wowza! I live in Dupage County, Illinois - a very, very red county. In fact, my precinct only has 43 Dems in it (my husband, myself and my daughter are three of them).

I agreed to take part in a grass roots effort to make sure that there was a Democratic precinct chair for every precinct in Dupage, not just cause it would help organize Dems for elections but also to make a statement to the Rethugs that the Dems were on the move and getting their act together politically in this town. I needed 10 Dem votes total to be elected (I was the only nominee but I needed this minimum number of people to be elected).

And I won! I spent $16 on postage for the postcards I mailed out to my 40 Dems in the week ahead of Super Tuesday. I also spent an hour calling those 40 on Monday night and reminding them about me, and more importantly reminding them to vote!

That is all it took to make my one small stand in redville.

Henry Hyde, now Peter Roskam is my rep. I am deep in redville and it's an accomplishment having Dems motivated to vote in a primary at this stage of the game.

Another factoid; 110,000 Republican primary ballots were drawn vs. 132,000 Democratic primary ballots drawn. That is shocking to me! Perhaps we're really changing in Dupage. :party:

I live within eyeshot of the DuPage border...and glad to see it turning bluer! We did a similar thing in NW Cook where there was virtually no Democratic party 10 years ago and now this area is totally blue...even State House & Senate! There's gonna be some great races in the 6th and 14th (also the 10th up this way) and I think our chances are damn good for some big gains this year.

About a week ago, right before the primary, I was driving through Naperville & Wheaton and was amazed at all the Democratic yard signs I saw this year (you'd never see those in the past)...even bumper stickers...hell, I saw someone with a DU bumper sticker a couple months ago.

Change is in the wind...and its people like you that are making a difference. Congrats and keep on keeping on!
