Michael Moore's 2003 Anti-War Oscar acceptance speech
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 12:23 PM by DesertRat
Do you think that anyone will speak out against the war tonight the way Moore did so eloquently 4 years ago?

2. listen to all the booing
I wonder how many of them still feel that way today.

"fictitious times". That is the perfect description.

5. It was an unpopular opinion at the time which made it a brave thing to do
Now the majority of the country finally knows what Moore did 4 years ago, as evidenced by the 11/7 election.

I think that anyone who said that tonight would be cheered.

that will live on in infamy!

12. Definitely. We so seldom hear "personalities" talking truth.

Spike Lee put that clip in his documentary and I'm so glad he did.

Hi there, mod mom. Always good to read you. :)

13. I've never seen the Spike Lee film but you just reminded me to put it on my list
of films to see.

Hi there back at ya, sfexpat2000. :hi:

20. I watched it over and over. It's not so much that you can "enjoy"
it -- except that it's a relief to see the truth presented so thoughtfully. That's a comfort, all by itself.

21. Kanye graces my living room!
After the '05 DC anti-war rally, my husband and I found this protest poster that someone has made and tossed in the garbage afterward. We recused it, took it home and my huband had it framed for my birthday. It has a picture of Kanye dressed in a fine suit with a bubble that says:

George Bush doesn't like black people
or white people
or poor people
or gay people
or the constitution
or Geneva Convention
and the list goes on.....

We placed it on a wall so whenever someone comes to our front door, they can read the poster.

7. that was great. I wish more people would realize that sometimes
the truth is not always popular and that there's no reason to 'boo' someone for speaking out against injustice, war, or other evils.

8. Someone will speak out...
I don't have any guesses as to who, but every year lately there has been at least one. No one has gone as far as Michael Moore did in the past few years, but I am hoping that tonight someone will get really brave.

17. More troubling than the catcalls were the blank stares of ...

... the folks in the front, Hollywood luminaries, presumably.

Reminds me of the "appalling silence of the good people" that Martin Luther King spoke of.

One wonders what generates this sort of response/non-response.

Is it stupidity, ignorance or just cold, hard fear? Or some combination thereof.

not a night on the town or a political meeting.

22. He's still battling the blackball for that speech.
And it turns out it was the complete truth. I wonder how all the boo-birds in the audience feel about this speech today.

If I know human nature 90% are saying they protested the war all along.
