With election season upon us, you have to wonder . . . will there be elections? How close are we to martial law?

Consider the recent events and actions under the Bush Crime Family. First there's InfaGuard, a program set up between the FBI and a number of businesses engaged in maintaining elements of "critical national infrastructure," such as agriculture, banking and finance, the chemical industry, defense, energy, food, information and telecommunications, law enforcement, public health, and transportation. The program's 23,000-plus members provide information to the FBI and in turn receive privileged information from the FBI on threats to infrastructure. According to an exclusive report by Matthew Rothschild in the Feb. 7 issue of The Progressive, "One business owner in the United States tells me that InfraGard members are being advised on how to prepare for a martial law situation�and what their role might be. Then they said when�not if�martial law is declared, 'it was our responsibility to protect our portion of the infrastructure, and if we had to use deadly force to protect it, we couldn�t be prosecuted.'"

Truthseekers, were you aware of this program? How many similar programs exist out in Bushworld? As always the Bush Crime Family covers up their shadowy activities, then when discoverd pretends all innocence and claims the programs are - and have always been - perfectly legal. Even when they're not. Orwell never imagined anything like this in his wildest nightmares.

Now we find out that out new Attorney General, Michael Mukasey, said the Justice Department won't investigate incidents of waterboarding because it is not torture. This from the guy who during his confirmation hearings claimed he didn't know what waterboarding was.

So the march toward a Police State continues. From Blackwater patrolling the streets of hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, to torturing foreign citizens into confessions of terrorism, to indefinite detention without legal representation or trial, to seizing laptops and other private property without a warrant, to controlling the media with carefully-scripted events . . . it never stops.

Let's not forget voter fraud, the illegal wiretapping and NSA's vast database of domestic phone calls made by innocent Americans, the deliberate obfuscation of a through investigation into the events of 9-11, the fraudulent "evidence" Cheney et al cobbled together to justify an illegal invasion of Iraq, and this doesn't even begin to address the myriad shadowy Executive Orders and signing statements executed by Bush under direction of Rove and Cheney.

Timothy Gatto writing at OpEdNews.com put it this way: "This is just not a strong President; this is a man that has basically changed our constitution to give the Federal Government, along with the executive branch, unprecedented power to do what it wishes, against most of the precepts that were written into the Constitution."

Gatto continues, "And that doesn't even consider the Constitution-eroding Executive Orders and signing statements that Bush has executed to avoid prosecution or circumvent the law. The main problem with these powers that the President has garnered through the use of fear and the threats of another attack is that the measures he has taken basically weaken our constitutional rights to the point where most Americans have no real protection from the power of the executive branch. If you are arrested, you have no constitutional right to a lawyer, can be tried in front of a military tribune, you can be held for an indeterminate length of time with no access to the outside world, waterboarded, subjected to extreme temperatures, deprived of sleep and subjected to extreme noise: all you have to is to be declared a terrorist or a terrorist sympathizer. You may say that this scenario is ridiculous, and that your lawyer would sue the government over this, but remember, you will not have a lawyer or access to a telephone to tell anyone what has happened to you. Yet, this is completely legal and there would be no recourse available to you."

This is not America.

So elections shmelections, what difference does it make?
