FYI...

Best to all,

- Dave

Edit added: Note that the most recent Sy Hersh article points out the strategic vulnerability posed by the narrow Strait of Hormuz, an issue I cited yesterday in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=279656

Hersh wrote: "(Among other concerns, war games have shown that the carriers could be vulnerable to swarming tactics involving large numbers of small boats, a technique that the Iranians have practiced in the past; carriers have limited maneuverability in the narrow Strait of Hormuz, off Iran’s southern coast.)"

are they that crazy?

of course.

are they that stupid?

5. If you just listened to Sy on CNN you have to ask what else it will take for Congress to act?
Sy has been very careful to print only what they could back up with evidence, and has cultivated 'inside confidential sources' to learn what is really going on.

How can Congress not immediately take up the issue of Cheney/NeoCon off the books extramilitary operations being carried out with illegal funds not allocated by Congress? (Hint: If it is too hot for Negroponte, that is a clue!).

ANd the recipients of those funds being members of Al Qaeda, our sworn enemey?

Can anyone not see this as treasonous? Out of control. And leading directly to disaster.

WE are in the midst of another Cuban Missile Crisis, except this time the flashpoint is stopping our own Commander in Chief from unleashing hell.

6. Half of Congress seems to be running for the presidency
instead of being curious about this.

8. I Watched Hersh on CNN...
... and I'm ever more convinced that our provocative stance in the Persian Gulf is going to force a confrontation.

I'd suggest bookmarking the 5th Fleet's website, which includes this depiction of its AOR: http://www.cusnc.navy.mil/mission/aor.html

14.  That about sums it up .
I read all the Sy Hearsh articals , the lastest one is a real eye opener . Yes it's Iran -Contra combined with the cuban missile crisis with an out of control madman in the drivers seat who is definetly not on our side but the enemy while the house is on slow motion mode without much control .

This entire thing really ramped up out of control real damn fast .

10. Given Sy Hersh's latest article, it might be worthwhile to
revisit who was involved in Iran-Contra and which of those are also players in the bush government today:

Pentagon Nominee Robert Gates Among Many

11. The Negroponte Section Was Interesting...
Hersh wrote:

I was subsequently told by the two government consultants and the former senior intelligence official that the echoes of Iran-Contra were a factor in Negroponte’s decision to resign from the National Intelligence directorship and accept a sub-Cabinet position of Deputy Secretary of State. (Negroponte declined to comment.)

The former senior intelligence official also told me that Negroponte did not want a repeat of his experience in the Reagan Administration, when he served as Ambassador to Honduras. “Negroponte said, ‘No way. I’m not going down that road again, with the N.S.C. running operations off the books, with no finding.’ ” (In the case of covert C.I.A. operations, the President must issue a written finding and inform Congress.) Negroponte stayed on as Deputy Secretary of State, he added, because “he believes he can influence the government in a positive way.”
