How much longer before Hummer goes belly up? And how happy will you be?
only thing that will sadden me will be the loss of jobs.

I have a visceral reaction every time I see one of those war pigs on the road, and those commercials are among the very most repugnant on TV, with the co-opting of pop songs/TV-movie themes to get one's attention.

16. I hate Hummers too.
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 01:58 PM by patrice
Especially when one full of drunk partyers drives by my friends and I (our street corner anti-war demonstration is right near a major entertainment district here) and they scream at us about what a great man Bush is (amongst other obscenities). This happens more than just a little.

So I share your feelings.

This board is a very tricky place, **not saying the OP is**, but many posts are just bait and replies get fedback into other blogs, especially over at freeperland.

Thanks! for not being all insulted by my post. :hi:

and did a certain figure named Root Boy Slim once live there?

he was in the same fraternity as the chimp, doncha know?

my favorite story about him, which he turned into a song on his first LP

''After graduating from Yale, Root Boy bummed around Washington D.C. for a number of years in different jobs, including one stint as driver for a Good Humor truck. One day he took a lot of LSD and went to the White House and climbed the fence. (He later explained that he "was looking for the center of the universe.") He was apprehended by the Secret Service as he ran up the lawn toward the White House. He was the first intruder since the War of 1812 to get completely over the fence.''

the song: Used to be a Radical

You ever heard of Klaatu on Usenet? He used to live with Root Boy Slim
during the "lost years." Other people that live or used to live nearby
include Matt Drudge, George Pelecanos, John Walker Lindh, John Fahey, the Fruitarian organization, and Catman.

48. Scale matters. It really does.
Eat a teaspoon of salt and you're fine. Eat a cup and you're dead.

Our environmental impacts as US citizens are so large that they overshadow dozens of lives of your average Bangledeshi. Owning a Hummer puts you into destroying more environment than scores of others.

33. I'll be happy. But Hummer is owned by GM. Only thing I could see
killing it would be high gas prices or some kind of national emergency where gas is rationed for an indefinite period of time.
A dim hope is that it'll become so politically incorrect people will stop buying it.

They already have an established, large, and well performing factory network in the United States.

36. There is a Hummer dealership in the biggest mall in Georgia.
No, not across the street, or across the parking lot...

IN THE MALL AT A MAIN ENTRANCE.

This is in a very red suburb North of Atlanta.

Tells you a lot about the mentality here.

41. OMG, I was at Mall of Georgia about two months ago
The second thing that struck me (after the fact that traffic
is horrific to just get into a parking space) when I was there
was that dealership. Right on the side of their entrance just
like you say.

We enjoyed the movie we saw there, and then we were happy as
hell to be heading back into the City of Atlanta when we were
done.

45. Traffic is horrible outside of the Perimeter in most of the suburbs.
Especially after 4 on weekdays and all weekend. People who live out there imagine that Atlanta is bumper to bumper, 24 hours a day, but like Bush they're intellectually uncurious. Atlanta is easy to get around in outside of rush hour proper. I have a friend in Alpharetta who tells me it takes 20+ minutes to get to his nearby grocery store in the evenings and has to hunt for a parking space when he or his wife gets there.

We were shocked to see the Hummer dealership in a Mall. I thought that a dealership just had them on display, but nope, it was the dealership.

46. The "loss of jobs" is a weak argument, once used by the Republicans to argue
against a luxury tax: yacht-SALESPEOPLE would lose their jobs.

I don't think the demise of one model of an automobile would have any greater deleterious effect than the usual on-going changes in the declining U.S. auto industry.

47. I was considering the laboring jobs....assembly line, subcontractors, etc.,
and speaking only in support of those poor people; not the greedheads who profit by making a trogmobile like that, instead of allocating their RandD towards cars of the future, that would have allowed them to compete with the non-quarterly-bottomline competition who are about to swallow them up/spit them out before we know it.
