Day ?.. How many days IS it until they tell you you flunked your mammogram?
How ironic..

I am the ULTIMATE test-taker.,.I LOVE tests.. the tougher the better.. Give me a test, and I'll ACE it..

Until today..

The lady doing my mammogram seemed particularly "interested" in one particular area..

She squeezed & squished..and took one pic..then another ...then 2 more.. then she did 3 or 4 more from a different angle..

I spared us both the embarrassing moment where I ask her , "What DO you see there?"

I know she cannot say..and perhaps I do not want to know..

All I know is that this probably is going to suck... in SPADES..

So now the clock starts to tick...good news (unlikely) can't come soon enough..but then bad news might need to come even sooner..

Oddly, I'm quite ambivalent..

My day had a good news part to it, so I will focus on that for now.. (Just call me Scarlett)..

My eye surgery scheduled next month may relieve me from the utter humiliation of having to take another behind-the-wheel drivers' test , in order to renew my license.... or so says the nice lady at the DMV.

So I will think about that... and not the "other"..

Que sera sera & all that rot.

If you have any extra fingers, cross them for me..m'kay ?

3. Yup.. do it tomorrow.. I was not very religious about having them
and I may pay for it now..:(

The odd thing is that I'm not all that crazy about these saggy old things, and even a little pissed that they might make me sick..long after I have any real use for them :)

7. You should call the office and talk to the person who answers the phone...
I'll bet they'll tell ya! They usually know enough to give you the basic "What Gives" even if they aren't docs.

If they do knock you out, you'll need someone to drive you home! You'll be all drooling and woozy! Probably not a bad idea to get a little heads up, just in case you need a helper to drag you home!

12. You won't be completely out, because apparently your eyes roll back in your head or something...
I had successful LASIK surgery a couple of years ago. I was really scared to have my eyes messed with, although I'm normally quite stoic over surgery and other medical procedures. I asked for extra sedation and it was given to me, so I was mercifully in the Twilight Zone.

Regardless, you should not be driving yourself any place right after surgery. You'll be legally quite impaired.

Best of luck with that, and with the mammo results. I think mine's in April, and I have to remember to pick up my old films from one establishment and take them to the new place so they can do comparisons.

Think positive -- there's all kinds of benign things that can show up.

10. crossed legs in chair just for you.
for the time being i'd keep telling myself that maybe the tech fucked up, couldn't get it right, the machine is screwed up, the darkroom development fucked up, etc. etc.

and i'd spend most of my effort on trying to convince myself of all that. then i'd get exhausted. then i'd take a nap.

i love naps!

11. Consider them crossed!
My wife has been there, and, unfortunately, done that.
A year out of her life, surgeries, chemo, radiation, the
whole nine yards. A life of pills and the constant nagging
knowledge that once you've had it, it can always come back.

BUT: she is still with me, now six years later, and no sign
of recurrence. Almost EVERY woman in her family has had cancer,
sometimes twice, and they ALL lived past 80, some past 90. Our
two daughters are not thrilled with this fact, but they also
know that they come from a line of survivors. If it's what you
think it is, OK, it's a pain and it'll take some time to cure,
and chemo sucks royally, but it can be beaten, and often is.
Welcome to the club.

13. My fingers are crossed.
I haven't had a mammogram in four years. Since I moved, my copays are killing me. I meant to finally get one last summer, when I made the rounds of the dentist, eye-doctor, and Naturopath for general health checks. After $1200 in copays, though, I ran out of money for the pap and the mammogram.

My last 3 mammograms, I had to go back in for more another, and then back in again for an ultrasound, because they couldn't "get" one spot practically in my arm pit. Every time, the ultrasound showed benign cysts. But I'm supposed to be checked every 6 months to make sure they don't multiply, grow, and that they stay benign.

I will keep thoughts for a benign outcome for you.

14. did you sign the release to get a copy of the report for yourself? I got my MRI results
in a day or two, and didn't have to wait for an official appointment with the doctor to "explain" them to me. With the help of google I was able to understand most of the report.

Sometimes it takes a day or two for the tests to be read.

Call the place where you had them done and ask how long for the results and when you can pick up a copy of the report.

Sending good thoughts and crossed fingers your way.

16. Fingers crossed, but ...
Try not to worry too much until it's time to hear what's up.

My mother has a particular spot in her mammogram that shows up every year, always gets extra looks, etc. It's not cancer. She always makes certain to go every year and get it checked, just the same, but more attention doesn't necessarily mean you're screwed.
