House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Addresses Media Following Republican Walk OutFebruary 14th, 2008 by Staff
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) addressed the media following a walkout of the House staged by Republican Representatives this afternoon, regarding the democrats’ lack of urgency to pass the soon to be expired FISA bill.
Pelosi alleged that the "urgency" Bush stressed in his speech regarding FISA this afternoon, was not as pressing as the President made it seem.
Also, Pelosi noted that Bush "manipulated the facts" with FISA and that the democrats were trying hard to get a bill passed. She stressed her hope that a bi-partisan agreement could be reached as soon as possible.

House Holds Bush Confidants in Contempt; Republican Members Walk OutThe vote was 223-32 Thursday to hold presidential chief of staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers in contempt. The citations charge Miers with failing to testify and accuse her and Bolten of refusing Congress’ demands for documents related to the 2006-2007 firings.
The Bush administration has said the information being sought is off-limits under executive privilege, and argues that Bolten and Miers are immune from prosecution.
Republicans said Democrats should instead be working on extending a law - set to expire Saturday - allowing the government to eavesdrop on phone calls and e-mails in the United States in cases of suspected terrorist activity.
