*************URGENT ACTION NEEDED NOW!!! ******************
I was assured that progressives here at DU are very concerned about poverty issues, and wanted to do everything they can to turn things around for poor folk.

Well, here is something simple to do, and to pass on to others.

Will you take the time?

Letter urging Congressional Leaders to enact and extend moratoria on Medicaid regulations
Deadline Extended: Tuesday, February 19 by COB

View letter: http://www.chn.org/pdf/2008/medicaidregsletter.pdf
Sign only if you are authorized to represent a national organization.
To sign email Allison Orris at orris@cbpp.org

Letter Overview: The Administration has issued a number of regulations over the last year and proposes more in its FY 2009 budget that will force states to make significant changes to Medicaid and will cause significant harm to children, seniors and people with disabilities. The letter urges Congress to enact and extend legislative moratoria to prevent these harmful regulations from taking effect. For more information about regulatory restrictions to Medicaid by the Bush Administration see: http://www.kff.org/medicaid/upload/7739.pdf

Letter urging Congress to support a strong nutrition title in the Farm Bill.

View letter text and list of organizations already signed on at: http://frac.org/pdf/NutritionTitleSign-OnLetter.pdf .

Sign only if you are authorized to represent a national, state or local organization.
To sign email Etienne Melcher at emelcher@frac.org or Eleanor Thompson at ethompson@secondharvest.org

Letter Overview: As Farm Bill negotiations continue to heat up in the House and Senate we urge anti-hunger allies at the national, state and local level to sign on to a joint letter in support of a strong nutrition title in the Farm Bill.

THANKS!

17. Do you have access to a phone? There are numbers available to call your reps.
Do you know people in said organizations?

Then, pass on the info.

Quite simple.

I'd do it for you.

Don't we have enough people going without health care?
I hope everyone will call! If it's up to Bushco even more will be unable to get health care.

15. The old game of shifting responsibilities to the states without reimbursement
Right at a time when the economy is heading downward. Who winds up paying the price to save the fed money but the poor and disabled - once again.

K&R - Thanks, b. I'm passing it on to people locally who have an interest.

27. Yes, we wind up shouldering the burden, because we're invisible.
We shoulder the burden for the sad state of the economy, and most progressives let it slide.

We shoulder the burden for the plastic bags, and most progressives let it slide.

We shoulder the burden of added gas tax, and most progressives let it slide.

Yet, we're told to pull up our sox and quit bitchin'.

Much better than (GAK!) "the poor" which is so depersonalizing...

I love how some people think. They look at a situation and don't follow the accepted memes. They think for themselves and teach us all.

21. This budget is a freakin' mess.
He's cutting everything important. Medicaid?! It already doesn't pay out enough so that most medical providers won't accept it. Making the states pay more?! How in the heck can Michigan or Ohio pay more? Seriously!

I will make the calls I can. Thanks!

22. Thank YOU! I appreciate you making the calls!
But, we can't keep blaming the RW -- Dems have a lot of power now, and they aren't very good at using it.

When we have a Dem president, and majorities of both houses, I think people will see that POVERTY still doesn't rate, yet they'll probably still complain about the RW.
