Crucial Week for Impeachment
Something very important happened in Congress on Thursday. After 7 years of cowering in fear of every dictatorial demand from Bush and Cheney, House Democrats finally rose up and said NO.

First, House Democrats refused to give immunity to the telecom giants for illegally wiretapping the calls and emails of every American - despite two Bush press conference hissyfits and endless Corporate Media lies.

Second, House Democrats declared Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten to be in contempt of Congress for rejecting subpoenas to testify about the U.S. Attorney scandal, despite an faux-angry walkout by Republicans. Watch Rep. Robert Wexler's excellent floor speech:
http://www.wexlerforcongress.com/multimedia.asp?ItemID=238

Could this be the start of holding George Bush and Dick Cheney accountable for their innumerable High Crimes?

The main problem we face is time. Since this is an election year, Congress will stop legislating and start campaigning full-time in May. Since impeachment hearings take time, those hearings must begin now.

Thanks to your emails and calls, 18 Democrats support Rep. Robert Wexler's call for Cheney impeachment hearings:
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/cheney
But that's not enough - we need 100 Democrats to support Wexler in order to force Speaker Pelosi to hold these hearings.

This week, every Member of Congress will be home working at their District Offices and meeting with the voters who elect them. That's us.

So let's send them a loud and clear message: Start Impeachment Hearings for Dick Cheney Now.

One great way to send that message is through "Honk to Impeach" actions at the District Offices of your Representative. These actions are fun and passing cars love it. It just takes 2-3 brave people to have a successful 1-hour event.

Here's a national map with ongoing honk-a-thons:
http://www.communitywalk.com/impeach
If you don't see one near you, call your bravest friends and pick the date(s), time, and contact info. Find District Offices by searching for your Representative here:
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt?command=congdir
Then create a map login and click "add a marker."

Connect with activists in your Congressional District by logging in to Democrats.com and clicking "local":
http://democrats.com/local

Click next to your Congressional District and blog about your plans. Find all details here:
http://www.democrats.com/honktoimpeach

Since it's Washington's Birthday, we've created a special flyer you can print and hand out called WWWD: What Would Washington Do?
http://www.democrats.com/files/WWWD.doc

This could be our last chance so let's hit the streets!

3. Why do I find that completely uninteresting?
Oh yeah... because if I were looking for a pundit I'd buy a television.

I'm looking for citizens.

The question is not what will surprise you, but what you will work for.

6. and if you live in, or near NJ -- Pelosi's comin' a'calling on Feb 29
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 11:53 PM by pat_k
Speaker "off the table" Pelosi is the featured guest as a benefit for Rush Holt's campaign.

When: February 29th, 12:30 p.m.

Where: Princeton Marriott Conference Center at Forrestal

Tickets: $500

Help give her the "welcome" she has earned. Visit the NJ Impeach Google group:

http://groups.google.com/group/new-jersey-impeach-group/topics

----- What you can do right now ---------

Write to Rush Holt and ask him to support Impeachment.

Write to local papers about Holt's refusal to call for Impeachment, and Pelosi'’s
reprehensible efforts to use (abuse) her power to keep impeachment "off the table."

Pick an ambassador and take up a collection to buy a ticket.

Take the afternoon off. Plan to stand with the "outsiders." Ask others to join you. Help make this a BIG event!

has them running scared if and when more Anthrax attacks occur in the offices of Congress and the media.

12. 3rd
Two days after approving the contempt citations - the dems still have not APOLOGIZED
(I think this is some sort of a record)

Have they been undergoing secret stem cell procedures to grow backbones and balls?

Should we start an APOLOGY WATCH thread?

14. No kidding!
I'm almost afraid to get my hopes up by now, but Thursday was, at least, a pleasant surprise.

I just signed an ACLU petition that told them to KEEP STANDING UP TO THESE BASTARDS!!!

And in the message portion, I wrote:

Why didn't you lock the doors after the republi-CONS stomped out in a hissy-fit - AND VOTE ON IMPEACHMENT OF BUSH AND CHENEY??????

It would have passed!!! Simple Up-or-Down vote. You know you are hearing it from your constituents. It's what We the People want!

Then when they complain, you could tell them - okay, we'll let it stand in the House. We won't pursue it in a Senate trial. That's the deal. Take it or leave it. Or maybe you wanna walk out again like a bunch of spoiled 5-year-olds?

Nancy, you're a mom and a GRANDMOTHER. SURELY you know how to handle unruly brat-children by now, don't you? You sure as hell DON'T coddle them or keep giving in to them - ESPECIALLY when they throw temper tantrums!!!

13. Honk To Impeach
If there's not a "Honk To Impeach" in your area, start one. All it takes is a handful of like minded neighbors and a cheap hand made sign. This what democracy looks like. You'll be letting others know that you do not approve of the concepts of endless wars and American empire. And all those who honk, and there will be many, have a simple way of showing support. Most of all, it's fun.
Do you know five people who despise Bush and everything the junta represents?
