The Office - A Parable about America
First of all, Micheal Scott is George Bush - he fully believes in his role
as benevolent leader of his group, yet he can't allow himself to see
the obvious, that everyone knows he's
a Peter Principle bumbler of the highest order, and he is continually revealing his
latent homosexuality.

Dwight is the religious bonehead right wing - fawning and sucking up to
power, but continually ready to stick a knife in, sexually secretive and
hypocritical in his relationship with Angela.

Jim and Pam are the liberals, smart enough to know what's going on but
not feeling empowered enough to do anything about it, although in
recent episodes they are awakening to their own authentic selves, especially Pam.

Join in and help me flesh this out. I think it is an example of how America
is imaginitively processing our dire dilemma.

1. I have never watched the show
that said, I am so sick of hearing that Bush is latently gay. Can't straights, just once, take responsibility for the people you spawn.

its just that a lot of republicans, especially religious reich-ists., are very confused about
their sexuality, even as they cynically use
homophobia as a political bludgeon.

In Bush's case, just look at him. He dresses up as a pilot,
he dresses up as a fireman, he dresses up as a cowboy,
he says everything is fabulous, as Randi Rhodes says,
he's a one man Village People.

3. I see Dwight as a freeper - the wannabe tough guy
who is really pretty much of a loser. To continue the analogy, he represents the pathetic right-wingers who side with any authoritarian politician because they crave power and control. He'd be the Abu Ghraib prison guard who likes abusing the prisoners just because he can.

Angela is the religious right -- prissy, negative and judgmental.

I agree that Michael is the Bush figure; he's in love with his position as manager but has no clue how bad he sucks at it. Although he has all the sensitivity of a toilet seat he thinks he's loved and respected. But he's not gay at all -- he's just scared to death that someone might think he is.
