Charles Barkley: Conservatives are 'fake Christians' - w/video
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Charles_Barkley_Conservatives_are_fake_Christians_0215.html

Former NBA star Charles Barkley, who is not known for his timidity when it comes to discussing his political beliefs, will surely be ruffling right-wing feathers with his latest comments.

Barkley, currently an NBA commentator for the TNT network, appeared today on CNN's 'Situation Room.' When asked by host Wolf Blitzer about his views on the presidential race, Barkley said he didn't want to see the Republicans win because they were 'fake Christians.'

The comment came after Barkley was asked his reasons for supporting presidential candidate Barack Obama, rather than Hillary Clinton or any of the Republican candidates.

"I've got great respect for Sen. McCain, great respect, but I don't like the way Republicans have taken this country," said Barkley. "Every time I hear the word 'conservative,' it makes me sick to my stomach, because they're really just fake Christians, as I call them. That's all they are."

Blitzer moved on to a different question following the comment, but later followed-up at the end of his interview and asked him to elaborate on what he meant by "fake Christian."

1. That interview was great! Barkley said multiple times, strongly: " I am PRO GAY MARRIAGE & PRO
CHOICE"

Wolf asked him more than once, "Are you comfortable making such statements?" and Barkley said " I am VERY COMFORTABLE saying that I am PRO GAY MARRIAGE & PRO CHOICE - VERY COMFORTABLE"

Loved it!

Wolf said "You used to call yourself a Republican..." and Charles began to vigorously shake his head and corrected him - "I have NEVER voted for a Republican and I never will; I said I paid taxes like a Republican and that is just fine with me."

He said he is running (as a Dem) to be governor of Alabama in 2014 (he will have completed the residency requirement by then), and that he WILL be governor of Alabama in 2014.

Go Charles!

3. And who's gonna confront Barkley and argue against him?
When he was in NBA playing condition, he was 6-9, and probably around 260. Big, intimidating looking guy. If someone like O'Reilly would confront him, I think Barkley would pick up O'Reilly and his flabby ass and stuff it in a garbage can.

I'd pay good money to see that.

6. Charles is really only 6-5.
He weighed close to 280 is college but slimmed down in the pros. I watched him play several times in college and have seen him a couple of times since. He looks even heavier now than he was in college.

7. He gave a funny interview on Letterman about how exercise wears him out
and bores him. It was very honest and funny. He said he's planning to start a new diet & exercise regimen next week (again - LOL).

8. Always dug him more than MJ as a kid, and that sentiment remains
If he becomes a popular progressive figure in Alabama, will we start calling him the Round Mound of Democratic Underground?
