Homeless man dies after beating, suspect arrested
http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/news/displayUpdate.htm?StoryID=71300

A Frederick man was arrested Thursday on attempted murder charges within hours of the beating of a homeless man who later died, the Frederick Police Department announced this morning.

Willard Vincent Sigler, 49, of the 200 block of West Fifth Street, was arrested Thursday night and charged with the attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault of Samuel Webster Hood Jr., police said.

Hood died as a result of injuries suffered during the assault. Police anticipate the murder and assault charges will be modified in the near future, they said.

Hood, 57, was found about 7 a.m. in an alley in the 100 block of West Patrick Street, police said. He had severe head injuries and was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He died at about 9:56 p.m., police said this morning.

Medical staff at the shock trauma center said Hood was suffering from a non-survivable brain injury as a result of the assault.

Police said this morning that it is anticipated that the attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault charges will be modified in the near future.

1. Well I'm glad those charges will be modified because that was one hell
of a successful attempt.

This country has lost its 'soul' for lack of a better word. The constant and continual killing of those who are most defenseless and neglected in our society says something horrible about us as a whole.

3. Aren't these crimes usually committed by teenagers?
I have to admit, I wasn't expecting to see a 49-year-old suspect in the article.

4. Why?
Just why?
Why attack someone who's down on his luck and helpless?
Don't people have anything better to do with their time and energy?

5. They do it because they can.
Because they calculate, with a lot of accuracy, that they won't get consequences for attacking an isolated, vulnerable person.

6. And because society doesn't care
about these people either.
The leaders of our government ignore the poor and serve only the rich. The media ignores the poor and powerless. And a fish rots from the head down.

7. And If I were the judge sitting on this case I would be just about sure he has done this before
Just didn't get caught. The thug.
