DU's Son ..... A poem

D.U.'s Son

This is the song of D.U.'s son, as he squats in his shack alone,
On the wild, weird nights, when his computer screen shoots up lights from the DU zone,
And it's six below, and his walk is covered in snow and his hungry doggies moan:

"I'm one of the D.U. brotherhood, I'm an old-time pioneer.
I came with the first -- O God! how I've cursed this site -- but still I'm here.

I've blogged in the summer heat, I've posted in the cold;
I've followed my dreams by its thousand new screens, I've toiled and moiled for DU gold.

"Look at my eyes -- been computer blind twice; look where my money is half gone;
And that gruesome scar on my left cheek, where the Rove-fiend bit to the bone.
Each one a brand of this Skinner's land, where I've played and I've lost the game,
A broken wreck with a craze for 'hooch', and never a cent to my name.

"This blogging is only a gamble; the worst is as good as the best;
I was in with the bunch and I might have come out right on top with the rest;
With Bleever, Bluebear and Swamp Rat -- O God! but it's hell to think
Of the thousands and thousands I've squandered on hearts after a drink.

"In the early days we were just a few, and we posted and played around,
Nor dreamt by our lonely P.C.s of the wealth of info that we had found.
We traded in smilies and whiskey, and I've often slept after I got laid
But oh Lord 2004, where our first big find was made.

And every person had his "we were robbed" spouting from their jaw
We were and wild, free, fearless as we yelled "Those fuckers broke the law!"

But we were all mad, both the good and the bad, and as for the women, well --
No spot on the Web in so short a space has hustled more souls to hell.
Election theft information was here, easy to get and to spread.

"Four years in D.U., struggling for information in leaks;
Roaming D.U.'s giant valleys, scaling its god-like peaks;

Four years in the D.U.. . four years -- and I'm old.

This was the song of the D.U.'s son, as he lay in his bunk alone,
Can the crook Bush now sneak out? The D.Uer's lips said this in a moan,
An illegal war and two stolen elections .... still chill him to the bone.
