Already encountering Republican arguments re the general election
Arguing with repuke relative today: I said McCain could not win because he wants to continue the war and that Americans are sick of the damn war. McCain is four more years of Bush.

Dumb right wing relative revealed this right wing meme: Bush does not want to "finish" the war, because it makes money for the Bush cronies and the big companies.

But McCain wants to "finish the war" and has experience in the military and that means he can "finish" it rather than Bush.

I think this particular moran could vote Democratic if he could be swayed from the above idiotic concept. I tried mentioning the surge and how that was to "finish" the war and did not work and what is the difference between a Democratic President getting us out and "finishing" the damn thing? (They never do have a good definition for that, or one that wouldn't mean the war could go on for the next 20 years). McCain having been in the military seems to be the difference. But why would that mean he would do a better job at "finishing" the war? His experience was long ago and the generals would be the same.

2. He is not employed in any way that makes him $$ off the war
But seems to be revealing this argument we would end up dealing with in the long run - McCain's military experience means he can "win" it and that the only reason we don't "win" now is that Bush and his cronies want it to go on to make $$.

3. So what would McCain do
differently?

I heard him say he would get Osama because he knew how to get him. I wonder why he's been keeping that a secret for 6 years.

4. Good point.
And his military experience deserves about as much respect as they gave to John Kerry's.

7. POWs are not a Pool for Presidential Candidates...They suffered and deserve the Hero status,,but
its not a prerequisite for this high office ....just saying.

I see no fresh ideas, never mind those Dynamic Ones....nada

The GOP have a Lock on Bad Philosophy....lie cheat steal, distort, trickery, conniving, intimidate, etc its all neg. With the baggage they carry, its impossible for them to take the high ground...their Fort is built on a swamp.

8. When it comes right down to it, the US doesn't DESERVE to "win" in Iraq.
Your repuke relative should learn this. As an invading aggressor, right, justice, and the moral high ground are not on America's side, just as they weren't on Saddam Hussein's side when he invaded Kuwait. Landing the first blow is never justifiable, especially if it results in a huge conflict that kills almost a million people.
