PRAGUE, Feb 18, 2008 (AFP) - Police in the western Czech border town of Cheb have launched an investigation into the theft of a four-tonne railway bridge.

"We are not sure if it was taken for personal use or for its scrap value," police spokeswoman Martina Hruskova told AFP. "It is the first time we have dealt with this type of theft."

The company charged with looking after the bridge, which was on a disused stretch of track near the town, raised the alarm, Hruskova said.

1. Personal use?

 I'd think scrap value would be more likely. I'd like to know how it was removed without anyone seeing who the perpetrators were.

5. Someone Who Needed....
The bridge must have been stolen by someone who need to do some training.

It might have been a person from "Tie"land.

I hope they catch the person who stole it, though. I hope the authorities don't railroad the wrong person.

;)

7. This post started strong
but wasn't able to finish at the same level

Some critics have said that what it needs was a more effective bridge between the two parts

Sorry my post didn't quite span the two parts.

6. What was it made of?
I see bricks in the lower pilings... if the supports were brick, somebody might be building a house or somethings. so yeah, personal use.

19. Maybe it's not much of a bridge, but those rails seem so let down without it.
Please show some compassion for those rails!

16. As a dentist...
please allow me to say that even this purloined structure wouldn't work sufficiently for some of the bruxers/grinders I treat.

Things got worse there too after the 2000 recount.

France (ap) -

The Eiffel Tower Stolen. Then found!

Yesterday, the renown Eiffel Tower, known by lovers world over as the symbol of L'mor, was reported missing.

One passerby stated, "I was sipping my morning coffee as I was bitching about stupid fat American tourists that we depend on for income when I noticed, sacre bleu!!!
The grand lady, she is gone!", he accented his surprise with a snap of his fingers.

At first police were frantic in their search. No door mat went unturned.

However, in the early morning hours, noted Snow Globe enthusiast, Maxwell Baratin, turned himself in and directed the police to his mountain cabin.

The police found a giant snow globe with the famed tower inside.

The Eiffel Tower has been returned to its place of glory, while the giant snow globe has been turned into a ski resort.

You'd think someone might have noticed a handful of stoners fighting over who has to carry the heavy end of a bridge down the street...
