Kurtz Carried McCain Link to Lobbyist Rumor Story Last December

NEW YORK Howard Kurtz, the media reporter for The Washington Post, covered rumors about SEn. John McCain's link to a then-unnamed female lobbyist in a story last December 21.

The story burst in full bloom tonight with The New York Times carrying a prominent story on its Web site.

Here is an excerpt from the Kurtz report two months ago.

Sen. John McCain said yesterday that he has "never done any favors for anybody -- lobbyist or special interest group," as his presidential campaign issued a statement denouncing allegations of legislative favoritism as "gutter politics."

The Arizona Republican has hired a prominent Washington criminal attorney, Robert Bennett, to deal with the matter. "What is being done to John McCain is an outrage," Bennett said in an interview.

Bennett said he sent prepared answers yesterday to written questions submitted by New York Times reporters who have spent weeks investigating questions about whether the senator did favors for a Washington lobbyist or her clients. ....

2. The knew a powerful attorney was about to sue them, so they did the homework first

and the story came out anyway. I'd say they completed their homwork, and determined that McCain had no case if they print what they did.

Sometimes NYT has sat on stories for less than noble reasons, as in BUSH's FISA crimes, but this one was probably in order to make sure the story was credible. It would sem it is credible, because it ran even though McCain has Robert Bennett in his arsenal on this case.

Having the same attorney as the CIA agent, Rodriguez, who ordered destruction of the Torture evidence, might be awkward in a political sense.

This morning CNN had Bettamillion Bill trying to pooh-pooh the whole thing...attacking the NY Times...as usual...and he quoted his brother as saying something to the effect of "there's nothing to see here"...so nice CNN, once again, offers full disclosure with the hacks they let babble.
