Without naming names ... Do you know anyone with a clean slate?
Without naming names, do you know anyone over 40 who has such a clean slate that he/she could campaign for the position of POTUS without the word "scandal" being used in the press?

3. I know a few who would handle the accusations by saying "Yes, I did that. So what?"
Lying about it is the biggest mistake most pols make.

22. Jesus never got to age 40
I believe most interpretations of the Bible have him dying between the ages of 31 and 33. (Matching up the various books of the Bible with secular chronology is easier said than done, so we can't be sure exactly how old he was when he was crucified.)

7. i don't think it has to do with being stainless as much as hypocrisy
for instance, there are many things i have done in my life. i have slept around. i have had a child out of wedlock. shit like that. but i am very open about it and feel no need to apologize for it.

what would make that exploitable is if i espouse religious beliefs & try to hide all these things. the hypocrisy makes it exploitable. there is nothing in my life that i am ashamed of. there are things that i have done that i have apologized for, so i don't do that anymore, but i'm not trying to hide it either per se.

33. HA! I have! It hasn't gotten out there YET! You're obviously missing my point.
Dirty things simply aren't discovered before an election, and a national election is the worst! EVERYBODY is searching and hunting for any little thing they can find that can slam you. Even things that are taken out of context are fair game! Of course you have to add to that, the people who will just make stuff up, using a smidgen of truth and expanding on it to things like "Would it influence your vote if you heard John McCain had a illigitimate black baby?" Of courst it's true that John & Cindy adopten a baby from Bangladesh (who is black). But she's NOT an illigitimate, and they fail to tell the whole story about her adoption.

If you think things like that won't surface about the Dem candidate in the 08 race, you're living under a rock! Who ever the Dem candidate is, they better damn well be working on a way to defust this crap NOW, before it happens, because it WILL!

35. Maybe they should not work to stop it,
maybe they should keep on telling stories to confuse the voters.

Then, when the masses are so confused, they will pick the candidate who has the best teeth, the most expensive shoes, the oldest car, the biggest grill, or has spent the most time at Disneyland.

I know plenty of people who haven't campaigned against earmarks and lobbying and been pulled back from their handlers from getting too close to a lobbyist.

And yes, I know at least two people well into their 50s who could hold up to the closest scrutiny regardng their private, social, and business/professional lives.

The sex doesn't matter to me at all. The utterhypocrisy and bad judgment is critical.

15. Its not that we are "clean" and they are not.
Its that they claim to have VALUES and that we do not. They need to stop claiming that they are so virtuous because they aren't.

It's the HYPOCRISY.

18. Not career politicians. However, a physician could. Like Howard Dean
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 12:36 PM by McCamy Taylor
because doctors have to be squeaky clean. Or someone who inherited their wealth and ran a bunch of charities during their life and became famous doing that. A famous religious/inspirational figure could since that person would also be squeaky clean. A judge would be clean. A retired military man could have a spotless record.

You just have to look in the right place if you are looking for clean.

Career politicians who were born rich and who have no personal vices (like Al Gore or Bobby Kennedy) are probably the "cleanest" candidates you will find.

23. NO! I've always said that! To reach a status high enough to
effectively run for POTUS, EVERY potential candidate would have met, dealt with, and most likely have taken donations from some pretty unsavory charachters. Absolutely NOBODY that I know who has achieved wealth (which unfortunately is required to run for high office) is COMPLETELY CLEAN!

29. um, pretty damn sure there's nothing in
Pat Leahy's closet. Of course he was elected to the U.S. Senate at 34, but he hasn't gotten rich while there, and there's never been a whisper of scandal about him. Vermont's a small state and if you know people in the political and news organization world, you have a pretty good idea about such things. I know there's no scandal in Peter Welch's past. He's a real Dudley Dooright, and I used to work with one of his kids. Never heard anything about Bernie or Dean either.

I am so totally NOT a John Kerry fan = as a person yes, but not as a presidential candidate. But the man is as clean a person can possibly be. They had to lie, twist and otherwise be scumbags in order to shovel any dirt on Kerry.
