Anthony Lewis recounts the different interpretations of the First Amendment to the Constitution in Freedom for the Thought That We Hate: A Biography of the First Amendment. Adopted in 1791, the amendment was first enforced by the Supreme Court in 1931. Mr. Lewis profiles the people and controversies that have shaped today's understanding of the First Amendment and the current arguments that surround freedom of expression. Anthony Lewis discusses his book with Ronald Collins, scholar at the First Amendment Center.

Nina Hachigian and Mona Sutphen, The Next American Century: How the U.S. Can Thrive As Other Powers Rise
Authors Nina Hachigian and Mona Sutphen maintain that the United States can prosper amidst the rise in power of foreign countries. They claim that the U.S. should focus on solving its own problems while maintaining and creating partnerships abroad. The authors also share their ideas for dealing with challenges to American dominance.

Brian Latell, After Fidel: The Inside Story of Castro's Regime and Cuba's Next Leader
From the North Carolina Museum of History and a conference entitled: "Castro and Cuba: The Inside Story," Brian Latell discusses his book and the future of Cuba. Mr. Latell, former Cuba analyst for the CIA, explores the relationship between Fidel Castro and his unquestioned successor, brother Raul Castro. He compares their different approaches to leadership and describes Fidel as a creative genius and director and Raul as a pragmatic producer. This event was part of the Raleigh International Spy Conference.

John West, Darwin Day in America: How Our Politics and Culture Have Been Dehumanized in the Name of Science
John West argues that the domination of science in American society has led to the corruption of our morals. He spoke at an event hosted by the Discovery Institute in Seattle.

David Boaz, The Politics of Freedom: Taking on the Left, the Right, and Threats to Our Liberties
David Boaz talks about libertarian ideals and the support for libertarian views in the United States. This talk was part of a book launch party hosted by the Cato Institute in Washington, DC.
