I have noticed a large percentage of very effeminate teenage boys these days.
When I was a teenager if you were effeminate you would get picked on and ridiculed and beat up in school or after school until you stopped being effeminate. I don't recall more than one or two effeminate boys in my high school. (The only one I can actually remember died of AIDS back in the 1980's) They'd all been cured of those proclivities in Junior High School.

These days effeminate boys are held in high esteem and those who would dare to discourage them from acting that way by making fun of them or ridiculing them are thrown in jail for hate crimes.

I have two sons, and neither of them acts especially macho or effeminate, and if they started doing so I wouldn't care one way or another. I want them to feel comfortable in their own skins, not feel like they have to be phoneys all the time just to be liked or loved.

18. A horror story.

Many moons ago when I was in junior high school, we had a bully who picked on everyone in sight and constantly called guys smaller than him, "fags." There's nothing unusual about that. We probably all knew someone like him.

He constantly went out of the way to demonstrate his strength, and his favorite derogatory word for others was "cocksucker."

As it turns out, no one ever stood up to him and most of us spent a few years crossing the street whenever we saw him and his "friends" coming.

I ended up in the same high school as him and was looking forward to years of misery. But it didn't happen.

About six months into the first year, a few students said they saw him performing fellatio on someone on one of the stairwells. My first impression was that this was made up just to discredit a really miserable person whom everyone feared.

However, one of the people who witnessed it was a history teacher and she reported it to the principal. I don't know all the details, but I do know that within a month, he and his family had moved away.

For the next year, there were rumors that he had committed suicide. But they were just that -- rumors. The family no longer lived in the same city and no one knew whether or not it was true.

Anyhow, I think of him anytime I hear Republicans and others protesting about "fags."

My heart went out to the people I knew in junior and senior high who were gay. They'd been coming out to me since I was 14, probably on the theory that somebody who was as weird and outgroup as I was wouldn't blast it all over the school to make points with the bullying ruling class. They were right, of course.

In fact, I'm often surprised by the number of gays and lesbians who survived the experience. A lot don't. Suicide for gay teens is a huge risk.

That web site of keyboardist clowns has to be populated by some of the most out-of-physical-shape, out-of-morals nuts I've ever seen online. They post with a vocabulary and critical thinking level of a middle school dropout.

It's amazing the Freeper quoted here can't figure out the primary reason for a perpetrator being thrown into jail is the act of unprovoked physical violence. There is something about con-artist con-servatives who believe this is a nation of "law" until they choose to break it - then it is supposed to be subserviant to their personal wacky reasoning. If someone did a study on their site of all the times the words "shoot, bomb, kill, destroy, beat up," were used, it would likely make quite a good case for them being a danger to society.

My only consolation is that most of them don't type their thoughts clearly enough for me to imagine they are old enough to vote. And even if they were, the actual act of voting would seem rather complex for their minds.

52. I was one of those "effeminate" boys.

I'm 23 now. Life in middle school and beyond was hell. It didn't even have anything to do with sexual orientation (I'm straight). I was slender, had long hair and wasn't into sports in any form. I was the bookish kid who hung around with girls and D&D players. Got picked on so much by guys like the bastard in the OP that I developed an anxiety disorder and dropped out.

Life was a lot better out of school. In an odd way, it gave me hope for my generation, as I met many people my own age who are mature and more accepting of differences. Still fighting the anxiety, but I'm getting past it.

So many people are miserable in high school, for me, life truly began at high school graduation. I'm grateful for my education because it was an excellent school, but, all girls, many of the "Legally Blonde" variety, I always felt so lesser-than.

To anybody who feels like a social lunk in HS my advice is: HANG IN THERE!! It definitely gets better!
