Siegelman - What I know and some questions regarding other media outlets
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 03:47 PM by AmandaRuth
This is what i know from goggle, and searching posts here at DU -

"In 2002, Siegelman appeared to have won re-election against Republican challenger Bob Riley. But then, in Baldwin county, Republican election supervisors (no Democrats allowed) locked the doors and "discovered" a "computer glitch" that tilted the election to Riley,"

"The bribery charge rose out of Siegelman's appointment of Richard Scrushy to the Alabama hospital regulatory board, a non-paying position that Scrusky had held under two previous governors"

"The judge at Siegelman's trial, Mark Fuller, a Bush appointee and a former member of the executive committee of the Alabama Republican party, had a well-known grudge against Siegelman. Fuller refused to recuse himself from the case, denied bail, immediately put Siegelman in shackles and ordered him to the Atlanta federal prison."

"Moreover, clearly illegal campaign contributions were received by Alabama Republican Senator Jeff Sessions and Federal Judge William Pryor, who have not been investigated much less prosecuted"

"Don Siegelman has since been shuttled back and forth among several federal prisons out of touch with his attorneys"

"After seven months Judge Fuller, in violation of the law, has failed to release the trial transcript"
WTF?????

Ok, now that my blood is absolutely boiling, I guess i can understand why national media is not reporting this story, being bought and paid for, and completely chicken shit, but what about The Huffington Post? I read that site everyday, and have yet to see anything about Don Siegelman. Everytime I post something there about Siegelman the comment has to be "approved", and it seems they never are. I used to really respect Arianna, but certainly no more. Where is Bill Mahr? What are Obamas and HIllary position regarding disappearing Dem's? What about Howard DEan and Al Gore? They are our leaders. Pick up the phone, make a conference call, and all four of you hold a press conference and ask that the man be released. Yes, it is that easy and I couldn't care less about your excuses.

Why hasn't the DNC spent some of that money I and thousands of others send to them to put out a nation wide email list to loyal Dem's asking for action? It's calll activism, and we dems are good at it. I hear the local alabama media will not report on this, why is that? Has the DNC even asked? This stuff is really shocking and not a joke anymore. And another thing, this is not about Karl Rove, although he is involved and should be prosecuted. This is about Don Siegelman who has been disappeared. GET THE MAN OUT OF JAIL.

edited, because I am angry, twice

3. I am not an American.
I can't get the man out of jail, although I definitely have been watching this. I have no congresscritter accountable to me to write letters to.

If there is a petition or someone you would recommend that I write to that might listen, I'll be happy to add my voice. This is a miscarriage of what is supposed to be justice, and the man is a political prisoner; no more, no less.

It's doing nasty things to the reputation of the US, and it is just another step on the road to fascism.

8. You might see if Amnesty International is supporting him
That's one group I know of that deliberately asks its members to write to countries other than their own on behalf of the unjustly imprisoned. If they don't have Siegelman on their list, they ought to.

4. First they came for Siegelman ...
Damn straight Dems ought to be up in arms about this kind of RW politically motivated injustice, because ignoring it
only makes them look even more like a bunch of wimps playing the victim.

Thanks for posting this. recommended gladly.

7. Ditto the comments requesting/demanding some action
"Pick up the phone, make a conference call, and all four of you hold a press conference and ask that the man be released. Yes, it is that easy and I couldn't care less about your excuses."

Most Democratic leaders did not speak out against the injustices of the 2000 and 2004 elections -despite the fact that it meant that all Democratic voters had their civil rights violated.

Why should the plight of one man bother them? They have aided and assisted in the demise of our country for eight years now.

However, for Siegalman's sake, I hope that I am wrong and that someone in the party has the cahones to step forward and get something to happen

9. i understand where you are coming from, but I truly believe that
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 05:22 PM by AmandaRuth
2 things can effect change - grassroots movement, action from the ground up,(we did stop the Vietnam war that way) and money. No dem candidate or organization will get money from me unless this is addressed. That is exactly what I will tell them when they call, and what I will reply when they write. At every opportunity, this is exactly what i will be posting as often as I can. And I encourage others to do the same.

12. Kick+ a profile of DoJ's Criminal Division's Alice S. Fisher
Alice S. Fisher was mentored by Michael Chertoff, she was part of the social/professional cirle of the Frist family and became a lobbyist for HCA, she drew a lot of criticism about her favorable views on torture so she was recess appointed into DoJ's Criminal Division by her Decider.

Her first "assignment" there, despite objections due to her lack of prosecutorial experience-she "led" the investigation of JACK ABRAMOFF.

It gets even worse-no one can make this up. Here's her profile from Source Watch (kind of dated but well worth reviewing)
