New Study - Marijuana Inhibits Breast Cancer Growth
San Francisco, CA - A new study announced today by the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute (CPMCRI) found that a non-psychoactive, naturally occurring compound in the cannabis plant (marijuana) called cannabidiol (CBD) inhibits the activity of breast cancer cells "in vitro" and in animals.

While previous studies have found that tetrahydrocannabinol, another cannabis compound known as THC, has properties found to inhibit cancer growth, the CPMCRI study is the first time that CBD has been shown to have a similar effect. According to CPMCRI, the study was accepted for publication in October.

"This pre-clinical research clearly demonstrates the therapeutic potential of marijuana's active compounds," said CPMCRI cannabinoid researcher Jahan Marcu, who is also on the Medical & Scientific Advisory Board of Americans for Safe Access (ASA). "The availability of a non-toxic substance that has the potential to fight breast cancer and likely other forms of cancer is of tremendous importance."

10. If it did
I'd be wearing "double Ds". Maybe I just haven't smoked enough.

Again, I'd be willing to take one for the team, sign up for any program and report my results.

15. But it's more lethal if you do get it, just because men usually aren't looking for it
If there is any cancer history in your family, monitoring those nipples might just be a good idea.

4. How many medical benefits have to be found before they legalize it?
At this rate, pot will become a health food.

If it were, it would certainly make it less attractive to kids. Hhmmm....... Is that such a bad idea?

14. medical benefits are exactly the reason they'll NEVER legalize it!
The LAST thing they want is for us to be able to make our own medicine that cures diseases. They can't patent the plant and they want to keep us shelling out our life savings for their chemical poisons.

8. Thats better news for breast cancer treatment than this crap
SAN FRANCISCO: Genentech won U.S. approval to market its top-selling treatment Avastin for women with breast cancer, giving the company a chance to add more than $700 million in sales this year.

Avastin was cleared for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, combined with paclitaxel chemotherapy, for women whose breast cancer had spread, the company said in a statement. Avastin, the first product to work by cutting off blood supply to tumors, was already approved for colorectal and lung malignancies.

The FDA overruled one of its advisory panels, which recommended 5-4 in December against approving the medicine for breast cancer. The committee said Avastin's benefit of slowing the spread of tumors was not worth the risk of serious side effects, including high blood pressure and death. Avastin generated $2.3 billion in U.S. sales in 2007.

16. Cannabidiol has also been associated with the "sleepy" effects of marijuana
I'm particularly susceptible, and if it were legal I'd use it as a soporific. With a vaporizor of course--may as well leave out all those tars. Nice to know I'd get an anti-cancer benefit as well.

25. CBD does have a sedative effect. It's an oxygen rich compound.
I think that "sleepy effect" comes from increased oxygenation of the brain. If you get too much Oxygen you can pass out.
