Uh Oh -New details emerge in NRCC scandal
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8398.html
<snip>
Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), a certified public accountant, had pushed for months for an internal audit of the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to GOP members, but the committee’s treasurer at the time was reluctant.

Finally, at a recent meeting, the now former NRCC treasurer, Christopher J. Ward, relented, giving Conaway what was supposed to be an official internal audit from 2006. That document was a fake, the GOP members said. Even the letterhead on which it was sent was a forgery.

Revelations about the falsified document touched off an unfolding scandal that has rocked the NRCC and spurred a criminal investigation by the FBI into the committee’s accounting procedures.

Fearing the fallout from the discovery, the NRCC informed its principal lender, Wachovia, of potential accounting problems. Wachovia, which declined comment Thursday, had lent the committee $9 million in 2006, according to Federal Election Commission records.

1. They're Kneecapping Themselves...
I've been waiting for more details on yet another GOOP scandal and this one could be a real problem to McCain and his cash-strapped efforts. What's more fun is how this revelation and any criminal actions have on GOOP donors...finding out their money is being embezzled (most probably don't care) and how money will have to be diverted from Congressional campaigns (ouch) to deal with this mess.

It couldn't happen to a finer group of slugs!

Let's hope this thing really doesn't hit high boil until later this year...as yet another GOOP black eye and hurts them financially right when they need it.

:hi:

2. The sweetest part is the faked audits and this
"...the NRCC informed its principal lender, Wachovia, of potential accounting problems. Wachovia, which declined comment Thursday, had lent the committee $9 million in 2006, according to Federal Election Commission records."

Isn't Wachovia tied up in Lebanese affairs?

4. You Know There Are Nervious Stomaches Here...
A complete audit could prove quite embarassing...especially if we learn that some of these banks (including those with their own credit messes) came up with some creative schemes in bending rules and laws. Also, remember, the RNCC was Tom DeLay's private brothel...moving money in and out of PACs...I'll bet Ronnie Earle is watching this case very, very closely.

3. I don't know if they don't care. It is one thing if they are doing the embezzling
Quite another if their money is being embezzled.

6. Let's not forget
Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas)

It took an honest man on the inside to bring this to light.

I think this man deserves our support.

:scared: How long before doctored pics of him having sex with horses turn up? They've probably got the heat-seeking missiles focused on him right now.

13. At least he has some respect for his profession
Why should he lose his professional license for a pack of criminals.

He'd better stay off aircraft and don't stand close to any rails.
