Corporate-sponsored economic think tank follies: the Reason Foundation
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 06:15 PM by brentspeak
This is the libertarian economic think tank hired by AT&T to manufacture a "study" that challenged the city of Provo, Utah's plan to create a municipally-owned Wi-Fi and broadband project, iProvo. AT&T didn't like the idea that it would be prevented from fleecing Provo residents, so they hired the Reason Foundation and managed to get them a spot in front of Congress to talk about their "conclusions".

But here's the folly: the Reason Foundation, which advocates for-profit privatization of state and municipal services, and in fact runs a website called "Privatization.org", apparently doesn't have the courage of their for-profit convictions when it comes to its own self -- for tax purposes, the Reason Foundation claims nonprofit status.
