Cell Phone tattoo runs on blood
Huh?

In the very near future, cell phone users can implant a silicone cell phone under their skin.

When switched on it appears as a tattoo with a standard keyboard and display.
The cell connects to a bluetooth earpiece, and is powered by your own blood flow. (so what happens when you try to call 911 for a heart attack?)

Even worse...what about kids with so many tats already, they have to find an alternate location?
I guess those baggy shorts will be very popular indeed.

1. if your blood stops flowing..
It should be a hint to call 911 automatically.

6. The article says it actually monitors such things.
At least the prototype being shown in the article (which is just a prototype of the electronic display implanted under the skin that looks like a tattoo.)

It runs on a fuel cell that is hooked into your bloodstream so it generates electricity from blood glucose.

And it has sensors that monitors blood chemistry and raises alarms if it detects something bad - anything from out-of-whack blood sugar levels or oxygen levels to chemical signs of a heart attack.

Sounds pretty cool, though you'll excuse me if I don't volunteer to be the first to be implanted with this gadget.

9. I propose that we implant that to Darth Cheney.
It'll be busy calling 911 every single day that the dispatch is going to ask to start ignoring Darth Cheney and let him rot.

2. How do you hear and talk?
Bluetooth? Speaker embedded in the mastoid process and mic in the throat? Yipes, I'm not ready for that one.

They may as well already have a phone implanted as much as they're on it.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/10/13/mp3_breast_implant/print.html

Here's an appealing thought: an mp3 breast implant which will allow surgically-enhanced girls to store and play back their entire music collections from their 36DD assets.

29. I really can't see it as any more or less
I really can't see it as any more or less 'assimilating' or creepy than an actual tattoo, or ear-buds from an I-Pod. From where I sit, it seems to me as six of one and half a dozen of the other.

27. Cell phones run on blood today
the blood of the people of the Congo basin, which is being pillaged for various valuable substances by international business, and the most important of those substances is coltan, necessary for cellphones, game consoles and other stuff. Five million dead to date, I believe. Congo ain't the only source of coltan, but it's the cheapest, the "civil wars", militia armies etc are both pawns and benefactors of the 1st world's lust for the stuff.

Can ya hear me?
