This thing has NO CHANCE of passing. Yet, Reid is going to push it through anyway. Why? For the political advantages.
Washington, D.C. – In an effort to force the administration to move away from its Iraq-centric foreign policy, U.S. Senator Russ Feingold is introducing new legislation requiring the administration to focus on addressing the al Qaeda threat. The first of Feingold’s new bills, which are both cosponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), will direct the President to safely redeploy United States troops from Iraq (S 2633). Feingold’s second bill mandates that the Secretaries of Defense, State and Homeland Security, in coordination with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Director of National Intelligence, provide to Congress a comprehensive strategy so we can refocus on our top national security priority – defeating al Qaeda globally (S 2634).
Yeah, right - this thing will pass - I'm sure the Repugs will just flock to vote in favor of it.
So if Reid is willing to try this, why isn't Nancy willing to try impeachment? If the argument against impeachment is it is a "waste of time" because it has "no chance of succeeding," they why is the bill above being given a chance to go forward? How is this bill any less a "waste of time" than an impeachment resolution?
Mind you, I'm not against the resolution being presented - more power to them, I hope it succeeds. But it's a long shot, a shot longer than impeachment, given
Bush's comments today:
President Bush predicted Monday that voters will replace him with a Republican president who will "keep up the fight" in Iraq. "I'm confident we'll hold the White House in 2008," Bush told donors at the Republican Governors Association annual dinner, which raised a record $10.6 million for GOP gubernatorial candidates.
"And I don't want the next Republican president to be lonely," Bush said. "And that is why we got to take the House, retake the Senate, and make sure our states are governed by Republican governors."
The pep talk came in the midst of a presidential campaign that largely has overshadowed Bush's final year in office. Bush has promised to be an active fundraiser, and he had no trouble slipping into enthusiastic campaign mode Monday evening.
He said Republicans still offer the bedrock positions that voters embrace: strong defense, low taxes and personal freedoms.
"When I say I'm confident, I am so because I understand the mentality of the American people," Bush said. "And I understand the mentality of our candidates. And there's no question in my mind, with your help, 2008 is going to be a great year."
Geez, I sure wish Dems would give us the REAL reasons they won't impeach this pompous, lying, psychotic criminal...
