The Birds (a TSS rant)
I was not sure how to start all this as so much has went on today, so I will start with how I started my day.

The Birds
"Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
Matthew 6:26

This morning was a really important day to me (more about that later maybe in another post) and I stood on my back porch watching the birds.

A short time ago we bought a bird feeder and some seed, pretty cheap really - and would save us money as the darned birds would stop eating up all the dog food (turns out it was a good investment, bird food is really cheap and they don't eat the dogs' food anymore).

I posted the above quote from the bible for a reason.

Birds aren't doing much for me - they crap all over the porch, torment the dogs, etc. And yet - I find a great pleasure in just seeing them flocking here and eating.

I give to them, and am not really sure I get much back - except the pleasure of seeing them and knowing that I have helped one of God's creatures make it through another day.

And once more, my mind turned to us humans and our government. The Lord saw fit to supply the birds with food and clothing, as well as water - and yet we humans, a step up the chain from birds, cannot even see fit to do the same for one another.

We think little of feeding the birds, giving them a bird bath, etc. If they make a nest in our trees, or in the overhang of our house - we let them, and are pleased to see them do so usually.

And yet - when our fellow human is down and out, we blame them and don't care for them. We inject into it all politics and philosophy. We say they are lazy, or mentally ill, or whatever.

We make them feel bad for the help we give them, tell them about how much our own taxes are going to support them, and so on.

All I felt filling up the bird feeder was how happy I was to help out another living being. Yeah, they are just birds and won't do jack for me, but it felt good to give another living creature a tiny bit of help - even when I myself am suffering.

How much more worthy are our fellow humans than birds? A lot I would say. And yet, we let such folks down daily.

We debate over whether or not to help one another, while we vote to approve more funds to kill fellow humans.

A simple place to eat, a place to make a nest and raise our kids is all most people want - and yet we cannot even do that because we are spending our money on wars.

A little peace, some food, and a place to rest our heads is all most people ask.

It is sad that such a thing is too much to ask in this world.

Tomorrow, no matter what the world throws my way, I will sit on my back porch and watch those birds. And I will envy them.

1. Straight Story, sorry, but your post is not a rant!!

It was a very inspiring entry, that made me look inside, as well as to the 'external' thinking of many these days. Look out for numero uno, etc. etc. "To whom much is given, much is expected." I sometimes forget to be grateful for what God has given me. Thank you for this post to ponder, as I retire for the evening. Much "food for thought" Nite Nite !! P.S. I love feeding and watching the birds also.

3. Some good things came my way these last two days my friend
I hope to post about them after dinner and I get the daughter in the tub.

So many ups and downs I feel like I am riding the Beast at King's Island back in Ohio.

A weird two days to be sure, and I owe you all an update.

Gotta to go check on dinner, the wife is getting hungry (having some raviolis and homemade cheesebread, cheap but easy).

Hope you are around tonight, always look forward to seeing you and nance.
